I'd rather have a good past and a shitty present, because I could still make the future better and make the most out of it.

Well actually i hate the idea of seizing the day, it's all about money.  Money to shut you up when you're retired and can't work your arse off for society any more.

@Mangled: I asked this question in a manner of emotions, not any higher thoughts  of it, but actual everyday life.

@Hair Trigger i asked about the darned past and present not the future...God, you guys should start reading the title a couple of times before posting anything, and i mean couple of times...
