Do you guys remember parts one and two? These?

Well, I'm back with more, and I'm kind of hoping for just a bit more of a response than I received with my last post.

http://people.msoe.edu/~brayshaj/files/story/Chapter%204.pdf
http://people.msoe.edu/~brayshaj/files/story/Chapter%205.pdf

Yep, I've been busy.  I've also uploaded some relevant sketches I've done:
http://people.msoe.edu/~brayshaj/files/story/scans%20(spoily)/

Probably most of them won't make sense, but 5, 6, 12, 15, and 16 might give you some idea of what I'm going for with some elements of the story.  12 is my favorite and 15 kinda sucks, but feel free to criticize any of the scans along with the story itself.

Anyway, I've done a lot of work on this, and I'd like to get a feeling for how it's going.  If any of you get a chance to read these chapters, that would be great; I've written close to 100 pages (double spaced) with absolutely no input, so I could be screwing up like crazy and I'd never know.  Criticism, criticism, criticism: bring it! I need to know what I'm doing wrong so that I can fix it in the future.  Suggestions for improving my techniques, both with drawing and writing, would also be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and sorry if some of the chapters seem a little...depressing.  I think they're important in establishing the characters and their conditions though, so try to bear with it.

Thanks again.  If you manage to get through all five chapters, I'll be impressed and very grateful.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.

I really suggest that you don't put your hard works of writing up on the 'net, as you're quite liable to get your ideas stolen and plagiarized. Good work, though.

Woaha, overkill. I'll see if I can get time to read through all of them.

In the meanwhile, you should check out Authonomy. It's a site by a big book label, community building sharpened to get your work around. It's safer than putting it up on a blog, and more effective - altough they do ask you to have 10 000 words minimum to start sharing.

Glad to see you haven't given up and are persistent about this - my main problem is that I've got THE BEST BOOK EVER in my head, but whenever I open up a document to start typing, it just fades away into countless hours of doing fuck-all. :/

Thanks for the advice.  I tried to avoid that by PDFing the files rather than keeping it in .docx format, but I suppose that won't stop a determined plagiarist.

Chapter 5 alone has nearly 7000 words, so I should be alright.  Thanks for the site recommendation; it'll be nice to find a community completely devoted to this sort of thing.

Well, I started taking down notes about a year ago (roughly eight months before I did any writing at all).  Just to get a feel for how much preparation I've done, I have a OneNote notebook with 8 tabs and 84 separate pages (some of which scroll down for quite a ways).  I'm pretty pleased with the results: There's almost no chance of me writing myself into a corner, as I've defined a timeline of events that I want to follow, and I know how I want each character to develop and interact with the others.  Actual writing is just elaborating on my notes.

I find this works well, because if I want to work on the story but I'm not in a writing mood, I just jot down some ideas and do the actual writing later.  I highly recommend doing the same with your story.  Just get your ideas out into the open, and deal with the actual writing later.  Not only will you have a tangible indicator of your progress, but that work will keep you motivated in the future.

Try writing again; I don't want to be the only one with a story around here. =)

no thinking. that comes later. you must write your first draft with your heart. you rewrite with your head. the first key to writing is to write not to think

On Demonic's advice, I've set up an Authonomy account and uploaded my book there.
http://www.authonomy.com/ViewBook.aspx?bookid=8591

Feel free to check it out there; reviews, ratings and the like will increase my story's visibility and consequently the amount of advice I receive.
