The New Maps

So as you all know, there have been arguments over the changed maps in the current soldat beta.
Some people have claimed that the majority of the community say they should go.

Vote for what you think should happen, and feel free to discuss the matter.

imo the maps are (mostly) an improvement, i like all the changes apart from the new ctf_Equinox and the changes to the spawn area in ctf_Dropdown

Some of you complain that the graphics are getting to a point where the FPS is affecting gameplay, and that it could make some people want to stop playing, however, many of my friends don't play soldat because they said the graphics are too shit, so I think that the improved looks could draw in a lot more people.

And about the smoother edges, I prefer them, on a whole I think they make gameplay more fluid, no one likes getting stuck when you are trying to outrun someone with the flag. ctf_Run has seen a benefit, especially low, there were certain parts of the tunnel that just didn't

Keep them, but rename them, and issue packs with the old maps to take the new filenames back.

but rename them
That's the other thing i forgot to mention, I can see problems when there are two maps with the same name. Especially if it is/was default. Why didn't the people who changed the maps add a simple 2 or 3 to the end of the name?

They're meant to replace the old maps.

Besides the 1.5.0 part of soldat is still out so if you want to play old map you can play 1.5.0 or download the old map version and play it. Its not much of a problem to me about the new maps though.

Yesterday I decided to go through maps and see what has been modified or not. When I saw Equinox... I had to crap my pants because of the anger. You could fly from Bravo base to Alpha base without landing. You had to land twice in the old equnox... anyway. Why are big maps made small? Is that because: "i'm lazy to run too far and cap that flag and run back, I want to capture quicky and as many caps as possible"

EDIT: Those maps can stay but rename them.

Each of the maps should be judged on its own merits. Some are good, some are bad. I wouldn't say that all of them should stay, nor do I feel that all of them should go. The beta testers, based on their own experiences as well as community feedback, will decide which ones stick around for the final 1.5.1 release.

I do agree that none should share names with older maps though.

Most of the maps created were meant for 3v3 I believe and I'm pretty sure when they beta test, it's usually 3v3. So I don't know if they have been able to simulate a public game with the maps.

Is there a server for this current version of soldat with just the beta maps, so there is a lot of people testing it. Sure you could play it on 1.5.1, but I haven't seen more than 2 people in a server so far.

I know this will earn me your ire, jerich, but all of the servers in #soldat.mapping are 1.5.1 ready and you can usually get a gather going pretty easily.
