It's also very dumb.

Even something as simple as appending something like -sdt to your regular password makes it more secure.

I agree 100%. Mine contains numbers and symbols and all sorts of stuff. Once a year i usally create new ones with completely random placed letters, numbers, symbols and such.

soldat.ini stores hashed passwords, if you're terribly paranoid you could check Wireshark to see if the plain-text password is ever actually sent.
