venting: WORDS AND LOTS OF (dsl. stuff.)

Apologies for the title. Not.

I just.. have to rant.. somewhere..

I'm spending my free time investigating my internet failures, which is really just another way of saying "time wasted." It's either the DSL problems people have are a cause of s**tty internet plans, Qwest being jerks, or modem problems.

Well, my modem got so hot last week, I'm surprised that 1) the house is still here and 2) that it didn't just go into a nuclear meltdown. Solution: replace it! durpdurp

Kay, replaced it. Nope. The internet worked great for, say, 5 minutes.

So apparently my family has lived in a DSL black hole for the past 8 years and never knew it. I recall someone saying to us, "DSL sucks" when they heard we were going the way of Qwest. It took us a long ass time to find out.

From what I've heard, Qwest sucks as it is.

My [cable] modem gets really, really hot sometimes, but I'm not worried about it starting a fire. Just make sure it's sitting on a flat surface like a table or computer or something. Definitely don't let it sit on a rug floor or carpet or something similar, since then it can't ventilate.

i gots a motorola modem. i can say it doesnt even get hot. yeah, it gets a little warm from time to time, but NEVER hot.

Would have nabbed a Motorola modem last week. I read that those things were very nice and reliable. The modem we ended up getting works fine though, although the Qwest service is still lacking
