Predominantly MSN for handwriting feature. Skype for business, Pidgin for AIM users.

Uninstalled Miranda because of the constant nagging of updates.

Ireland; MSN over here, or facebook if your a (young)teenager. I once heard some younger kids say, "Ahh yeah, I'll facebook ya later". I nearly pissed myself laughing cus she said it in that typical nasal inner city accent, where people usually say; awhh staary buud, instead of hello XD.

I use IRC now and again, but recently mIrc wouldn't let me log on, it said I needed to register, even though it never has before, it says your trial has expired but I could still use it, not it seems to have caught up. I use besirc for IRC now.

Yeah mIRC and WinRAR, among others, are like that. They'll bitch and moan saying you need to register them but they never actually stop working.

if there would be any advantages after registering i would do so, but its also kinda expensive in my opinion.
my version is also expired but it always works just like once per month the "continue" button on the popup after starting changes to "Exit"

Is irc really popular in any countries for ordinary people :o ?

Chatzilla.

IRC is really popular everywhere, but usually for techy-ish people. It's too hard for people who're used to just aim/msn/yim usually.

MSN all the way. You can add MSN Plus it to it (though I'm not sure if 'virus' scare is true with Plus) and the YIM emotions suck. And most importantly, it's entwined with Hotmail and Gmail.
