Torrents with permanently pre-registered/activated versions of Windows (as in appearing to windows update, as well as everything else, as activated successfully and genuine) are readily available. If you had a shed of self respect you'd go for one of them instead of dishing out cash for a "legal" windows license.

There's a difference between talking about torrents and inciting someone to torrent Windows 7.

But anyway, that's your decision to make and you can't really go wrong either way.

One option is legal, the other one is not. And I'm interested why you put quotation marks around the word "legal."

To answer the OP, your educational institution might have an agreement with MSDNAA if you're lucky, allowing you to get legal copies for free while you're studying. Otherwise you could just buy one for $30 if you're a student, or buy a new computer and get it included, killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.

what 12th account said, particularly the part about how you should be able to buy a copy as a student for $20 or $30, or use a campus volume license

jrgp - he's right about what he said too.  It's not just against the rules here to link to warez sites, but to promote copyright infringement/piracy

Almost all of the suggestions in this thread about torrenting/cracking/re-re-reactivating an unlicensed copy are illegal or in a near-illegal gray area.  The poster was almost certainly asking for a legal place to get a copy of win7 for free ("legit"), and the answer is "there almost certainly is none"

You really need win7?
Maybe you could just use an old copy of windows xp/vista.

Indeed, I really should.
This topic is probably a little overdone, seeing as the possible options have been narrowed down fairly specifically.
