New Polytype: regenerates JETS
« on: March 09, 2012, 07:08:59 pm »
It's like the regeneration poly, but for jets: you stay on this poly, and your jet is recovered overtime.

Ideas:
  • recover your jet faster
  • give you extra jet from the maximum. (let's say a fixed value of 50, which is a little more than very low jets).
  • Thats an interesting idea. These polys could also be non-collideable, so you'd regenerate jets while being inside them, not on top. This way you could make a low-jet map, but add a few spots where you could float infinitely. It would open up some interesting possibilities.
OBS.: nÂș 2 would give you jet in maps that have no jets otherwise.

What do you think? You can vote on soldat google moderator

P.s.:
but I was thinking in something like "charging" your jets. Once used you'd need to go to the next poly. That is specialy nice for climb and maybe TW maps where you can reach a place only with jets, but you'll have to "save" it for that place

P.p.s.:
the "extra" jet would be a fixed amount, like 50. It would not be determined by the map file (or maybe it could?). So a fully "charged" player would have 50 of jet in a map with no jets

I agree. But if it was implemented I would want to set jet fuel that I think on each map.

I guess mapping design would change much and more controled  routing would come.

I think any jet regeneration wouldn't be really noticed in gameplaying. Well, maybe on climb maps and similiar game types where it's quite important.

When I saw the topic title I was hoping you were going for a polygon that always had jets shooting from it so you would float on them. Having them just regenerate jets instead of health sounds pointless.

Also, why did you link to google vote instead of adding a poll to this topic? That's what forum polls are for.

it would be most noticed on map without any jets.
I used google moderator because that's what it is for AND the suggestions are gathered in one place and can be ranked and searched and etc...

Thats an interesting idea. These polys could also be non-collideable, so you'd regenerate jets while being inside them, not on top. This way you could make a low-jet map, but add a few spots where you could float infinitely. It would open up some interesting possibilities.

Hoping for map format changes in the near future, so that new polytypes could be easily added in without changing map format again.

In that scenario you'd only float infinitely if you held down the right mouse button infinitely. For the purpose of floating positions I think that'd be best left to a "while behind you float" type polygon.

How about a map optional feature for jets that makes them not regenerate on their own to begin with? Combine it with this idea and seeking for jets would become a fundamental part of gameplay unlike some silly and dispensable ideas about being able to fly a little bit more or regenerate jets a little bit faster in certain areas.

Or perhaps even better, you could set the regeneration rate to be a positive or negative value - allowing one to come up with some pretty interesting map layouts.

the little more WAS the intention on maps that does not regenerate (no jets), but you made it clearer, thanks
Biscuiteer's idea is nice as well, but maybe it'd be a bit confusing as well
