A long time ago way back in September I posted a suggestion to enable Charlie and Delta flags here:
http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=5287.0CTF maps are always horizontal runs to ensure balance. I sought to make a vertical map, and to do this I wanted four flags. The idea was to create a "splitscreen" style map where both teams would ascend a tower and fight each other while never really having access into each other's field of play.
Unfortunately, that's yet to happen, so I had to try an alternate method. This is ctf_climbwar2. I post it here
not as a completed map -- just look how ugly it is! -- but rather as
a mapping idea and to gather interest and see if the better map makers would be willing to consider this concept. Basically everything green is comprised of "only players collide" polygons. There are no jets, but the jumps shouldn't be nearly as difficult as a climb map. There are colliders to hide behind for cover in the crates scattered about the map. In a way this feels like a vertical trenchwar.
One of the neat things is that with the entire environment being as it is, dropped flags become a team challenge and a risk. Likewise, it's great to have a map where the action is mostly confined to a single screen. One of the things I love about the jacks_pacman map is how it keeps everything focuses with minimal scrolling. I'd like to think this map would result in a better team effort to win.
Obviously it's not exactly what I had in mind in that linked post above, but it's close enough for now. Those thinking such a map would be dominated by sprayers -- doing so risks sending your flag to the other side for an easy cap, and the colliders are spread around enough to allow safe cover as needed. If you're interested in trying it out I have it on the Elite CTF server in rotation, but I'd much rather play something with this gameplay but better looking.
Unfortunately, I'm hardly good enough to create a map with any artistic promise, but I'd love to see others (hopefully) like this concept enough to pursue their own.
