My desired new project !

Hi everybody,

I'm Shu, a coder, I'd like to participate in a new project : The rebuild of Soldat in another language(coding).

Why?
Because Soldat is written in an old language (Delphi) and that the net code isn't correctly implemented

How?
Using :
- a layered programming -> the net code will only be in 1 place
- Optimized code -> To make the game as fluid as possible
- Brand new Interface -> not the ingame interface but the menu's !
- Open source -> Community programming -> Developing the game at a quicker rate, fixing bugs even more quicker

Of course if MM give me the source code and allows me to make it open source !
Using sourceforge under a license (don't know which one yet)

But the ads will still be in the game, you'll then have 2 possibilities to remove them (and to gain the private options)
-> Support MM
-> Recompile the source code yourself after some adjustments have been done
The last point should be under ONE SIMPLE CONDITION : If you make your own version of Soldat, do not make it public !

Michal will surely release the source code for Soldat some time in the future... but not in a time even near to today.

2. Then why give away the source code at all?

Also... Delphi is a pretty solid programming language. And it would take ages to convert it into another programming language. Also also don't you think Marcinkowski himself has optimized the code as much as possible already? (Well... on a second thought I'm not too sure about that one after reading those interviews )

This is how Linux Red Hat Enterprise works !

and yes people (coders) will obey to that part, since most of them respect rule like this one. I do !

2. Then why give away the source code at all?

Under license, so everybody can help improving the game !
And if someone doens't respect the license we can sue him ! (more money for MM)

Well, there was a project similar to what you post here, called the Ouden Project. I wasn't in it really, but i know it tried to recode the soldat client in c++ using OpenGL. It had great support at the beggining but then it died.

Are you Fucking kidding? I do NOT support this. Leave the coding to MM. I dont want some stranger messing with soldat's code.

I could imagine the havok that this will cause...  It might work for linux and other OS projects, but I don't think it will work for Soldat.  Also, I see people DLing the source, removing the ads and sure enough, not paying for it.
