Rise Of Nations...
« on: December 22, 2006, 11:38:08 am »
Ok, so today I went out to buy a computer game. As I was trying to keep it cheap...I stuck to a budget of 40bucks. The first thing I looked for, Were Battlefield games, and anything with guns in it. bahahaha....Costing way to much for my rather pathetic budget. I took a worrying step towards the mmorpg section of the PC games. WoW....no thanks....Black and white....nah.......Well....The game that caught my eye, was Rise Of Nations. I had played a demo of this game, a few months back...when I had no net. I was addicted. Sadly, it was 80bucks at the time...and I didn't have the cash for it. Well...Today, for 30 bucks...I thought "AWESOME!" and leapt at the checkout attendant with my bank card, and game in hand. I quickly ran home and installed it, and have been playing it now...for about 6 hours.
Has anyone else played this game? I also got another disc with the game....something about an expansion pack. I'm installing it now.....

Anyone else own this game, or played it once apon a time?

Edit: For those who have never heard of it.....Its like Age Of Empires, but better. (and smaller). Graphics are sorta crap (but that could be my Video card's fault) But the gameplay (although rather long) is awesome.

Hmm..for me it was a toss up between that game and Medieval 2:Total War.  I went with the latter and I've been very impressed.  I just can't play it since I'm home for Christmas and my other comp. is in ALabama.  But, if you're ever looking for another good game to pick up, I'd suggest that.

Maybe I'll pick up. R.o.N. when I get some extra cash over the holiday.  I did like Age of Empires, and if it's smaller and better..hell, can't go wrong.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

Yep. If I remember correctly... AoE III was.....3gig?....This one is somewhere like 800mb-1gig. Be sure to look out for the Gold Edition (as you can get the Original, and the Expansion pack, and its really cheap).

Age of empires 3 was the worst piece of shit ever, don't compare any game to that, that would be an insult to programmers everywhere.

Yeah I preferred Age Of Empires 2, though the graphics were shit, the gameplay rocked.

I've played it. Althugh it does have some varied and balanced unit types, the gameplay was sometimes reduced to feverishly spamming as much units as you can or get taken over, which is partly why I don't play it now.

If you're looking for a battlefield strategy game, then Medieval II: Total War is the only answer! If you haven't already seen it- Its battles are very cinematic yet still very realistic and strategic. The Map part of the game lets you still do all the science and civ building things, but are kept away from the battle engine/environment.

Have you seen Empires: Dawn of the Modern World? It's pretty much a 3D RoN but with a slightly smaller time span (going up to WW2 I think).

What's wrong with AoE III? Personally I thought it kicked ass. If the issue is that it takes up too much space for, 3gig aint that much when you an 80gig harddrive, and it runs well on my video card with 256mb of memory. Although my favourite RTS games will always be the Dawn of War series <3 I do own RoN though, but I got sick of it after a while, since I couldn't play it online...

EDIT: Even though it's kinda different, Civilization IV is a really, really good game.

I remember that game...Old school and corny but still awsome. I play it occasionally.
