Weapon change
« on: January 18, 2007, 03:18:10 pm »
Hey Guys, im new to the forums.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am from Norway, and I have been playing Soldat for several years now.

I started off with the HK mp5. This was back in the good 'ol days when they hadn't nerfed the sniper and SAW. Back then I was pretty good, getting first place at almost every deathmatch server I played on. I picked up on the Sniper, but quickly found out I sucked with it. I stuck to the HK. Then came a period when I didnt play soldat. I started a couple of years later. But now lots of stuff was changed. I picked up on the m79, and started using that for a long period.

That was up to this week, that is.

After many frustrating matches, I found that many people complained about my m79 skills. Many called me stuff when I killed them. I usually ignored it, because I really didnt have an amasing kill/death ratio to be honest. But a couple of days ago I grew tired. People should settle with the fact that the m79 is a weapon, that in the right hands can wield lot of pwnage. Many really dont cope with the long reload-time and stick with other weapons. Using the m79, I gained a good aiming-skill, so I calculated in my head where tha target moved, and such. And I fired. In many insane circumstances I racked in really nice kills. So admins started banning me for cheating.

So I switched to the sniper rifle now. I have learned that the skill I gained using the m79 really helped. And my k/d ratio is now often 3 (and such) on most servers. The sniper is nerfed, so you have to aim and take the time. Perfect for one trained by the m79.

For aspiring snipers, I reccomend the m79 as a training weapon at times. Ignore the whiners.

You learn to ignore the whining after a while anyway.  Every gun I've ever used has caused people to call me cheap or a ___-tard at some point, even if I wasn't playing very well.

Most of the whiners are just mad because you kill them alot and they can't kill you. One time i got banned because i kept killing these noobs with the mp5, and they said i was hacking.

I occasionally use m79, but I used to hate it and all that used it. Now I am just ok with it. But I do think the other soldat weapons are a little bit more practically, especially when facing a ton of enemies at once.

Most of the whiners are just mad because you kill them alot and they can't kill you. One time i got banned because i kept killing these noobs with the mp5, and they said i was hacking.

That reminds me of the time I went into a server that a really new soldat player was in. He kept calling me a haxor because I was killing him so fast with nades and mp5. He left the server with the last words "have fun playing with your self, you haxor."

There is one universal solution that will be 99.9% sure to get rid of whiners, and improve yours skills far more than playing on a public server would.
The answer: Play gathers and clanwars. I found once I started playing in clan wars, all the whining, name calling and whatever else just disappeared, to be replaced with the occasional "ns" here and there. You be sure that you be called a "noob" or a "hacker" no matter what tactics and weapons you used. Clanwars are much more fun than publics because you on a team with people you know and trust, rather than a bunch of random goofballs. If you're from Norway, you're lucky because you play gathers, I cannot because I am Australian, and I lag horribly. Visit #soldat.gather on IRC. A gather is pretty much a clanwar for people without clans, or who don't have enough teammates online for a proper war.

Thanks to Demonic for helping me see the light.

PS. It's also extrememly rare that you'd see a hacker in a gather, and even less likely in a clanwar.

Whining eventually pays off. I never stopped since 1.2. I could even call lame clans such as EF sprayers and leave during a clanwar or gather. Now I'm somehow chieftain of the weapon balancing for 1.3.2 and get to talk to MM :)

Ahhh !

The m79 is teh sux0r doods ! There are, once in a while, the odd people who can use it well and score very well because of it. Now, I'm not insulting them.

I am, however, insulting the freakin' poo-heads that use a grenade launcher like a SHOTGUN. There isn't much that sets me over the edge, but playing for months, honing your skills just to get repeatedly creamed by bum-rushing 79ers is a serious damper.

On the other hand, I started playing with the Ruger (pretty darn good too; got a multi-kill my first game) until everyone started calling me a Ruger tard. So I can understand where you're coming from.

The preferred outcome of war is peace. Ironic, huh ?
