ctf_Mayestic - Glory End for the Maya series (now wped!)
« on: February 22, 2007, 08:10:45 pm »
Eventhough it is not a bad map and I believe that Avarax' rating of of it was a bit too hard, I didnt feel to satisfied with Maya3. Looking at all 3 Maya maps, I came to the conclusion that Maya3 was a graphical step forward (although held too cold) while its gameplay was a bit too straightforward ("sprayforward") for CTF.

What was left to be done was a combination of the best parts of all three maps, combined to one playable creation. The result is ctf _Mayestic. Basically its the layout and the colors of Maya1 combined with the graphical style of Maya3. Bases are a mix of Maya1 and 3 (with the increased height from the deeper part of the bases on Maya2), so is most of the upper side, while the lower side sticks more to the first Maya than to any other map. Except for the middle part, that gets some elements from Maya 2 with the long bridge and the floating middle isle. The temple ruins from Maya3 moved to the map's peak, the graphical element of the stone bridges was kept. The typical "Maya stones", that were rarely existing in Maya3 were revived and can be found all over the place.

What else should be said? Well, the map is smaller than all Maya maps before, so even though its not too straightforward it should offer a good compromise between tactics and speed play. The map is considered to be the last part of the Maya series created by me, others are welcomed to continue it with quality maps.

Oh damnit. That's hot! The layout seems very good to my eyes, I like the look and the name fits the map VERY good.
Is it on a server? Want to test it!
Is it waypointed?

5 Stars from me

Edit: omg your downloadlink is wrong! I checked it, it's http://www.denacke.net/Dibo/maps/ctf_Mayestic.PMS ;D

It's not waypointed... yet. I'll tackle 'em, I guess.

It's not really... well, from what I can tell I think it would be more impressive if you never released ctf_Maya3 before this, basically :P Still lovely coloring. I'll check it out.

Now that I playtested it in-game instead of just criticizing from the overview, it looks good, ha.

Man, that central building was hard! I spent nearly an hour just continuously playtesting Alpha alone in trying to get them pass into it. Darn j00 g_d and the left supporting pillar slightly away from the end of the ramp...

Bots who come to the enemy base and find the flag missing stop and camp and await respawned enemies ;D In the matches I spectated, Alpha is very slightly superior to Bravo, for unknown reasons, but the difference shouldn't be too substantial.

The middle crossing has good space and gameplay. Nevertheless some of parts looks rough a bit. Anyways it serves a mean game.

ctf_Maya and ctf_Maya2?... They're official levels, aren't they? There was ctf_Maya3, right before this one
