Statistics howto?
« on: June 29, 2006, 01:14:07 am »
I've server from selfkill and website with PHP, but not mySQL support at the moment.

I'd like to have stats online to that remote web site. How is it doable without needing to use my computer as server? I take it Zitrostats can fetch logs from selfkill, but are there other scripts that can do it, without mySQL? I recall reading through old soldatforums, and everybody talked about adding a local server to host the stats from the local machine. Not keen to that as my computer is definitely not 24/7.

If all else fails, are there free mySQL sites/server/whatever that i can use to make server statistics online?

in finland we have this thing called 'pilkunnussinta'

Dude your sig mega breaks the rules...
Quote
Signatures

    * For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

There is another script that doesnt need MySQL to do stats, but it has to be on the local server not remote.

rather strict mega rules, considering it eats cool 0 bytes of soldatforums' space.

so mySQL is a must :-/

I've company website with mySQL support. So i have server in one remote adress, php in another and mySQL in third. Can i combine these three with zitrostats? (that's the last option and will get me punished :()

would be SO cool if they added online stats to selfkill (not sure if there are such, dont speak german)

The rules are for saving bandwith and to save the forums from long garbage pages, not for saving the actual soldatforums' space. People might have slow (dial-up) internet connections, so using large images (in kb) cost them more money. And if you have a large image (in height) then forum readers have to scroll thru useless garbage (users' signatures). Consider this when reading the rules.

On topic:
I highly doubt you can make it with the resource above mentioned. The soldatserver's log files must be accessible from the internet to use them on a seperate webserver. MySQL has to be configured to allow access from remote addresses to be able to connect to it. So with a bunch of luck, you will be able to do it, but as i said, i doubt it.

esko, did you just completely ignore EnEsCe's post?  Why can't you use sx4?

edit: and yes, please fix your sig

No I did not completely ignore his post.
SX4 is not suitable for me because

but it has to be on the local server not remote.
or what is the difference between local and remote in this case? I have stats logs in germany, while the website with PHP is in finland. neither of them are on my computer. Hardly local :(

Yes, I already fixed my sig: I had two images, one 450 x 213, 33kb and one smaller. Now I have one, 300 x 142 and 16 kilos. So I have image 17 pixels taller than allowed -but four kilos lighter. Hopefully noone is using 13" monitor, then it might be noticeable too large. Sorry. PM me if I still step on someone's toes. I use somewhat large resolution and sized monitor, I may loose touch with reality every now and then.

it still breaks the rules, max height is 125 ;)

sorry, had no idea about the locality issue

If you ask mar77a nicely enough im sure he would modify it to get the logs via FTP for you... if your soldat server has FTP enabled, that is.

Ok, I ask him but guess this is not worth the effort. Just a fun thought.

probably because you were busy measuring pixels instead of reading the thread?
my new 'by the book'-sig is dedicated to you.

you could easily take a chunk of code out of the u13sss beta version's update script and drop it into mar77a's sx4 to have ftp log fetching work very easily.

by the way, mocking an admin for enforcing the rules is not something I advise you do.

The issue was about 17 pixels (17px:).
At worst, it was bending the rule of sig size, not breaking anything. And it was still 4kb below limit, which should weight more than . I've only scratched surface of the new forums, and the largest sig I noticed was 28kb. Lots of 21-25kb. Ban them for good. I think there are real issues other than telling people not to exceed 43 letters in their sig per line. Seriously.

Other than that, the idea of joining codes of u13sss and sx4 is excellent. Ty for that. I pass the files to a friend who is not as code-retard as me. Maybe he comes up with a working piece of code

.esko.

Signatures that are too tall are distracting, and what do you expect us to do? make the rules 200px height?  oh wait, but then someone will come along and make an argument like yours, so we'll have to leave allow 210-215 or raise the rules.  At what point do we stop?

We need to adhere to the rules very closely, otherwise they're pointless.  The reason you see so many people with signature images that break the rules is because we're working on coding tools to allow other moderators to help enforce the rules.  Right now it is only me and one other admin that are actively enforcing the rules and notifying people that they're breaking them.

on-topic: make sure you give him the code from the beta version of u13sss, not the version posted a while ago (version 4.6 is the old one).  There is a link to it in the fan apps sticky.

The code in u13sss that handles ftp stuff is very portable, you can easily cut it out and make it work in sx4.
