My take at the changelog

- Added new maps: ctf_Cobra, Island2k5, Leaf, inf_Messner, htf_Zajacz, htf_Prison, htf_Erbium, Factory, ctf_Steel, ctf_Ruins, ctf_Division, ctf_Conquest
I've only played ctf_Cobra and inf_Messner so far. Cobra rox, messner stinks. But that's just an oppinion.
- Added BattlEye anti-cheat engine integrated ("BattlEye_Anti_Cheat=" soldat.ini option)
Very nice idea, what I was looking for. Just that it seems to kick players quite often for no reason.
- Added game screen resolution change (for registered players)
I'm not registered, so I can't tell.
- Added minimap (F2 key; for registered players; "Disable_Minimap=" server-side option; "MiniMap_..." position and transparency options )
See above.
- Added new Soldat intro starring the Soldat ghost
Way better than the old one, it shows better what Soldat is about. Just that that damn song keeps on running in the game menu after I close the Intro.
- Added completely new lobby server uses reliable TCP/IP connection (http://rr.soldat.pl)
This is great. It's a bit buggy still, but once it's fixed, it'll be great, I'm sure.
- Added color icons for server ping in servers list
They're sweet =)
- Added country flags in server list
Even more sweet. But really. They show you where the server is and what ping you can expect. Gj.
- Added unicode support (for all menus; taunts)
Great. Öö Ää Üü =P. Thuogh it doesn't seem to work on Avarax' RS Pwnage
- Added chatting with IME composition (for East Asian fonts)
Dunno 'bout that. It's cool though, it gives asian members a chance to communicate in their languages, that's just fair.

- Added fonts size change option (more info: Soldat\Txt\fonts-help.txt)
Great, and needed. I hate the new default fonts and sizes, so this gave me the ability to customize my Soldat even more. A good addition.
- Added shadows under console and chat text
Wtf? I haven't even noticed that.
- Added font can be changed in menus through Soldat\Txt\font.ini (or language specific e.g. english.ini)
See above above.
- Added default game keys shown in escape menu during the first 3 run times
Will surely help some newbs.
- Added separate file "weapons_realistic.ini" for realistic mode weapon settings
This is also great. It gives more ability to change the WM for realistic servers, such as Leo's.
- Added window resize option in Config (windowed mode can be stretched to fullscreen)
I always play in fullscreen anyways =P.
- Added transparency of bullet depends on bullet strength (the stronger it is, the more visible)
Not very noticable, but pretty good addition, I think.
- Added team colored kill console
Nah. That's useless. You cannot catch a glimpse of who's dead and who killed now. It was better when it was Green, red and yellow.
- Added team colored chat messages
I liked the old version better. I though you would only make the colour of the teamchat fit the color of the team and leave the normal chat white. That would've been way better.
- Added flags and weapons start blinking 5 seconds before disappearing
Nah, that's just obstructing and really not really needed.
- Added suicide weapon shown in kill console
Huh? I didn't see it. It was never shown in my game. I /mercy'd but it didn't show. Neither did grenades or collision damage. They didn't show up.
- Added recoil setting to weapon modifications (works in non-realistic mode)
Wow cool, recoil in non-realistic? Pretty nice to have this customarizable.
- Added F9 hides Soldat to tray (Alt+Tab also)
Very handy.
- Added player catches on fire from lava polys
Nice little effect =D.
- Added transparency enabled on polygons
Also pretty neat. Will give more abilities for mappers.
- Added server address added at end of gamestat.txt
Yo.
- Added gamma brightness adjustment option (works only in fullscreen; right mouse button sets default value)
This is good. It can adjust the maps with brighter backgrounds (tw_rime).
- Added PNG loading - if BMP not found in folder PNG is used
Handy addition.
- Added network protection banning stolen registration keys
Good, so Soldat will not be cracked :O
- Modified weapon balance (more info in Soldat\weapons.ini)
I won't talk about this now, would become too long.
- Modified reworked and fixed maps (more info in file Soldat\Maps\Maps Change-log.txt)
Only pretty minor changes, but all are good. The new sceneries on some old maps are making those more interesting, that's a plus.
- Modified bullets (except Barrett, M79, LAW, Knife) lose 50% of power after screen distance and another 50% after 2 screens
O Kurwa! I feared this to happen! This would mean that they only have 25% of their power after 2 screens. Please make this customizable in the weapons.ini, so TW servers can keep the spraying up.
- Modified bullet graphics for better visibility
Oh holy shit, the worst thing about the new version, surely. Those new things look like flying laser dildos. Totally unrealistic and just...ugly. Sorry, I know that this idea is good, but this way I just hate it. Imma replacin mah PNGs!
- Modified new random texture used instead of blank.bmp (to prevent scenery delete cheating)
Anything that prevents cheating is good.
- Modified flamer does not kill owner
Good, will make the flamer more attractive.
- Modified Alt+F3 hides player names on screen, F2 reserved for minimap
Yah, it's just needed if you have the MM on F2 (hey.....)
- Modified increased visibility of grenade trail
I've heard quite a few bitchings about that, but I like it. It looks good and it makes nades more visible. Reminds me of GTA III quite a bit.
- Modified player does not lose points after team change

- Modified parachute cannot be dropped for 2 seconds after respawn
Good. I am sick and tired of dropping down without a parachute on tw_paperwar.

Pretty good, prevents faking.

Pretty good, but I never thought this was needed.

Aye! Nice! Finally something that brings more more more realism in. Let's go play some Trenchwar.

Just a tiny change, nothing fancy to me, I never get kicked XD
- Modified registration restriction taken off font changing
I don't get this, really...
- Modified grenade bink works on weapons with grenade throwing

How? Could you make this clear? How did they change?
- Modified knife throw delay is slightly shorter
Nice, now me and my trusty knife will have even more cool frags xD
- Modified respawn counter background overlaps console text

- Modified faster server pinging
Of course that's good, if it would work Oo
- Modified killconsole look; added spaces between kills; long names render smaller
THE shit. I hate that new layout. The older one was way easier on the eye 'n stuff.
- Modified taunts can be scrolled only after pressing chat button and not typing anything

- Modified Config program; added Troubleshooting FAQ button link

- Fixed Alt+Tab problems, Soldat now always minimizes to tray
This is good, because I had quite some trouble with that.
- Fixed weapons mod MovementAcc hack

- Fixed "wrong map version" error when scenery count was less than 5

- Fixed hits not registering while player near collider and on ground shot at certain angle
Well, where's the hit-reg fix in general?
- Fixed flooding server with taunt messages (only 3 the same can be sent)
A pity. Now my "Press Alt+3 for 10 seconds for GODMODE" taunt is useless xD
- Fixed instant shot; avoiding startup time (for Barrett and LAW) when weapons fire bar is reloaded
Yes, just makes it more fair.
- Fixed Soldat starting suspended or page popping out when ad server down

- Fixed team change bug
Oh finally! I had lots of shit with that.
- Fixed gun jamming when standing on dropped weapon and changing weapon
That was not a bad element, but I can live without it xD
- Fixed mouse cursor display with sensitivity other than 100%

- Fixed "no bots" filter saving
Handy, nice.
- Fixed idle kicking during paused game

- Fixed Soldat resizer screen hack
As above.
- Fixed parachute network problems
Finally. I already said it, they were totally screwed.
- Fixed flames in network bug
As above.
- Fixed chat text reappearing after erasing whole text
I have never noticed that happenign to me.
- Fixed not being able to vote for 2:00 minutes after team change
Also good.
- Fixed map sector bug (when more than 255 polys in sector)

- Fixed textures not loading from Mod directory

- Fixed weapon and gostek graphic restrictions (weapons no larger than 64x64, gostek 16x16).

- Fixed player weapons settings in hand not changing after loading new weapon mod
Also quite a good one.
- Fixed messed up menu graphics on first installation and game start
Great. Now, new people won't be scared when they start up Soldat for the first time.
- Fixed Barrett typo (not changed in weapons.ini for compatibility)
Hah.
- Fixed explosion damage not calculated using anti-lag (like bullets)
Ah, here you've hidden the hit-reg? Of course, this is nice. It just doesn't work. I have noticed it on !Elite Snipe'n'Slice. It has too many exploits still.
- Fixed player colors using transparency (no-head exploit)
K, I hated that anyways.
- Fixed weather effect sound not working with sound volume
That's good, it was annoying.
- Fixed grenade and M79 trail position
They had a trail before?


At all, it has many good thigs, but major bad things. The font thing and the killlog will keep me angry for a while.

But I just think that Soldat can do way more.
VTT had a great thread about it, that the PMS system can handle much more sounds than the few that are used at the moment, so why isn't that changed? Why are so many great and accepted additions not added? I know that you had to get that game done, but I'd rather play a good game 2 months later, than playing a bad one now.


I do not want to say that Soldat is bad.

I'm moving this to general discussions since most of it is likely to spawn discussion and there really isn't much "new idea" stuff here.

I hate the parachutes, dropdown 2 sucks with parachutes like that.

Also whoever redid the maps, thanks a lot, now equinox sucks ass and so does voland. the old ones hand close quarters combat and open spaces, not anymore.
