DM Chasm, based on Bridge (suggestions plz)

Bridge is, quite arguably, the worst default map there is for Soldat. So, I figured, why not take Bridge and remake it? And that's what I did, I made a bigger layout, added a bottom route, and just overall added more space. After a couple hours of work I think its good enough to show to the forums. (I attached it to the post, look at the bottom)

Now, I am open to suggestions... do you think this general layout is good? What should the stmosphere be? Should I finish it? Let me know please.

Ok I finished the layout and laying objects, and updated the pidture. What do you think guys? Good, bad, maybe? And what gamemode do you think would be the best; I have it configured for all gamemodes but I want to release it as a single one.

More color on the poly's (not anything strong though). Fill the holes that are inside the 2 things under the bridge. It could be a ctf map if you put one stationary gun on the other idea of the bridge too (not many servers that have those on but anyway). I think this map should be an all arounder DM-TM-CTF-Rambo. Of course some scenery too..

Btw Gimp do par whit PhotoShop and its free.

maybe some suspension wires on the bridge? mb? i dunno...

Yeah I havent done any color/scenery or finalizing on the edges yet, I want to get the layout finished. In fact I would love if someone could host this on a server for a few rounds, just to find and nagigng problems with the layout.

lol, why are you all talking about color and scenery? Of course he'll add them in later. :P

Wow this looks extremely promising. The only thing I don't like about it in its current make of its polygons are just about everything on the outside (make them thicker), and the two masses connecting the bridge (fill 'em up, but keep 'em looking cool with 3D texturing and shading). It would be pretty cool for DeathMatch but if using TeamMatch, Delta's spawns are evil :P I think it would be best off as CTF considering how large it probably is, from what I can tell.

Now for potential layout problems: the Charlie boulder is too small; that should be wider, and perhaps longer as well. The flat land to the left of the stat. gun is too plain and easy to get peppered at; it should be more hilly (you may want to use the ceiling of the boulder above to help), and the ramp below it is also too difficult for people trying to go left to advance; players can just bullet-spam or easily roll 'nades downwards. There should be some modification to it... perhaps make the hill have steep and almost flat sections, varying it, or make it something like the bottom of ctf_Run/ctf_Laos where it stops into a long shaft. I really like the boulder work and expect this map to be a prominent one!

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to make the jump into red base from the tunnel more vertical, and make the tunnel flatter; also adding a nade-spam protection bridge in the middle (so nades fall through the bridge). That should make movement a little easier, it is kind of awkward now that I have put some testing into the map. The thin layer of polys on the outside is mainly for coloring; incase I want to add some blood to a poly or make slightly more lichen growing on it than others, and also to stretch it to look like a cavernous space. Then I can fade outside that to black quite quickly, so I can then fill in with blank black sceneries instead of increasing my polycount by twofold.

I think in the end I will release it as DM, the map is not a very small map, it is bigger than Ash, but it is fast paced; you can run from bravo to alpha's base litteraly in several seconds if you watch your keys. I will have to re-work the charlie/delta spawns, probably I will put them equally on either side of the chasm, instead of shafting delta.

I kind of want to keep the Charlie boulder in the middle; it is where the yellow flag and the Rambo Bow spawns, and it is just for a platform to stop on to recharge jets or grab the flamer upgrade. The middle of the map is designed for aerial combat and is anti-M79 (the bridge and bottom extending platforms are all bullets dont collide), while Alpha side is more longer-range/rifle combat and Bravo side is for shorter ranged weapons (mostly M79/Spas/MP5). I also like the flat land to the left of the stat gun, it is just about the only place the Stat gun can shoot from its spot, besides directly into Bravo's bridge entrance and slightly up to the left.

Afterthought: Also I have never waypointed a map, Keron could you do it for me?

If the end product is good, sure—in fact I was suggesting lengthening the Charlie boulder a bit a bit for aesthetics but mainly to make waypointing a bit easier, ha. :P
And keep in mind that ctf_Laos or especially ctf_Kampf is not very large, on that ruling. I still think it should be CTF, but hey, it's not my map...

For me it looks sorta biased for a CTF (One side is bigger than the other) I would prefer it as TeamMatch/Deathmatch, it's huge, it's wicked and it's awesome, great for DM.

@Kryp -- go buy some skills. use /command to bring up the commands.
