Ping always 9999
« on: June 21, 2007, 11:17:39 pm »
Ok I'mma be short and sweet:
Played Soldat online, for years, fine.
Got new firewall, now a lot of servers or connections have 9999 ping.
I suppose it's the firewall.
Can SOMEONE help?

Disable your firewall while playing soldat and turn it on after you finish playing. Hope that helps

What happens if you use the Ping All button? Try it many times?
I got the same problems although I don't have any firewall.

Well, its almost definitely the new firewall that you got. I would suggest checking to make sure that soldat.exe is being given access by your firewall. Depending on what firewall you're using you'll have to look in different places for that option.

Hope that helps.

Raiko:  That's what I do, currently.

GluLm:  Haven't tried that; does it help at all?

Wormdundee:  It's given access.  No problems.  But for some reason, people can't access my room.  Doesn't that have something to do with port-forwarding?

Ah, so people can't get into YOUR server then?

Well either way, port forwarding could be a problem. So, do you go through a router then? If so, then you would have to go to the router configuration page using your browser. Otherwise, there are some firewalls that also have the capability of handling ports so you might want to try opening up 23703 or whatever port you happen to be using for your server, and the servers that you're trying to connect to.

I know it isn't the router <we actually have a 5-port hub now, but it only blocks my PS2, Soldat has been fine with it>
I'll try allowing 23703 to be it's port access, perhaps that will help.
---
I think that fixed it.
But when I start there's an error <it's just there, it doesn't tell me, I actually didn't know until I looked myself>
"Could not bind server file socket 23083"
Or something along those lines... is that a problem?

Eh.  Didn't help.
I don't think it did anything.
I thought it did, at first, because when I reinstalled Soldat and ran it, the firewall didn't pop up and complain.

I STILL have to turn off my firewall in order for my friends to play.
And I've got the destination ports of Soldat.exe set from 0 to 65535.
So why does it still do this?  Is there something else in Soldat that accesses the internet?  Could it be a BattlEye problem?

Dude, pay a dollar and have EnEsCe open up a server for you and they'll run it off of THEIR webspace. Less hassle, you AND your friends can join it, and you still have full control over what happens with it (unless you don't pay your bill ;P)
