Server hosting
« on: July 05, 2007, 08:19:15 pm »
Alright, anyone that still plays online with soldat 1.3.1, have you ever tried to connect to this particular server (the server being mine...)?

Note: the reason I have my ping blocked is because from my computer, it always reports it to be ???. I figure that it's because I'm the one hosting the server.

The reason why I am curious is because I want to know what happens when people attempt to join. Does it let you download the map? It alerts me whenever someone attempts to join, but it never ends up telling me that the joiner recieved the map file... I would join my own server to find out but, I can't.

If there is some other way of doing this, someone please let me know...I feel kinda dumb doing this in the first place. I did have people join one of my servers once, and they downloaded ever single stupid file and joined, but never on any of my recent maps...

Matter of fact, keep everything I've just said in mind, but anyone with 1.3.1 wanna bother trying to join my server some time, then telling me what messages they recieved? It would be most convenient.

Ok, I'll check for you now. Edit later :)

Edit: Ok, so I had no luck finding your server anywhere on the lobby list. I tryed the IP in the IP box in the screenie, but it seems to be saying that the server is full. Is that your server, or an offical (like U13 ctf) or something? Give me the details fo your server, like IP and port, and I'll try again.

Ay, truly sorry. I don't have it running all the time...that's a fault I guess... Thanks lots for trying. It's truly appreciated.

[Edit]

The server name would be (WM) !{Z}ombie-[Defence] most of the time (I'm testing maps at the moment).

Humm...I could try to host it at a peculiar time every day or something so people could actually make an attempt to try it.

Hmm, whatever. Actually this thread should be in Server Help... Well, to sum things up, I used EnEsCe's server testing thing, and my server is squared away for Soldat 1.3.1, but not for 1.4.1. It simply does not exist in 1.4.1 soo... I suppose I look around in Server Help to see if I can find my answer.

What.... what are you looking for the answer to?  Your server will only work with 1.3.1, therefore it will only show up for people running the 1.3.1 client.

People running 1.3.1 see a list of 1.3.1 servers.
People running 1.4.1 see a list of 1.4.1 servers.

Err...mk I said that wrong. I have problems when hosting a 1.4.1 server, but not when hosting a 1.3.1 server. I am not trying to get one server to work for both versions.

In order for any of us to really help you, you should leave your server running.

Yeah, that's why I ended up using EnEsCe's Soldat Connection Tester.

Well, I should just leave up a dedicated but I generally host through the normal Soldat exe. Alright, I'll experiment hosting dedicated, leave it up and see what happens. IP and Port # are the same.

[edit]

Wait, is the dedicated server hosting thing in the Soldat directory reliable?

Note: Changed the server name to (WM) !{Z}ombie-[Defence] since I am testing some news maps. The server would be a zombie match at the moment.

[edit]

Stupid bunghole internet...old dsl crud that has no perks to it.

Anyway, through an hour of striving to get my server running on Soldat version 1.4.1, I come to the same results that I had in the beginning, failiure. For some reason, I can only get my router to forward 5 ports, and nothing more. That really isn't the problem though...I can host through the normal Soldat client just fine in version 1.3.1 but I can't get anything running in version 1.4.1 (dedicated hosting doesn't work for either).

So obviously something beyond forwarding my ports is preventing me from hosting in 1.4.1 and since I'm not 100% computer savy, I can't seem to find why. As said previously, I've been using Enesce's server checking thing and lately, all results have come to utter Failiure. I'll recheck some things in my soldat.ini...troubleshoot some more and if nothing comes around (which nothing will)....

Now I've got one hell of a problem. I host a none dedicated server using Soldat version 1.3.1 and I check my port in the servers list and it's completely random as to what port it uses. Sometimes it'll be port:3357...it's kinda odd..

Any tips that anyone could provide me with? It'd be quite awesome.

Alright, well double post...hope no one minds my 50th one.

Well, reconfigured my static IP adress and my server works beautifully now on version 1.3.1 although I still can't host a dedicated server and 1.4.1 hosting is still messed up when I attempt it. Oh well, alls good and I fixed my own stupid problem. I'm still only back to where I started in this whole mess.
