Watery Cavern [final release]

Watery Caverns: Final

Nice name eh? Doesn't even quite fit. The map itself is kinda odd since it's a cave structure sitting in water...It isn't completely done. Bare with me. I threw this together in about 2 days (very unusual for me). I made the polystructure yesterday cause I was bored, then decided it didn't look so bad. I then screwed around with the background, found that blue one, then decided to base the map off of that. I'll revamp this sometime, I just want to throw up the screenshot then be done ;). Don't have time...I'm getting something like a life now. But yet I still don't have a life cause i'm still posting.

Waypoints: Yes

Polygons: 330
Scenery: 130
Spawns: 6
Colliders: 3
Waypoints: 124
Dimensions: 2584x2186

Here you guys go. Nice tropicalish map. Texturing isn't finished. Lots needs to be done (small things), so whatever. Enjoy. I don't have time to pack the sceneries so this is just the map for download. Sorry bout that.

Edit: (July 16)

Note: Click on the screenshots to enlarge.

Alright, I have three screenshots up there. The first is the oldest and first one. The second was a test to see whether it looked better with a darker scheme. The third was just the first one updated with soem changes to the coloring. I want to know what coloring scheme looks the best. Ignore the fact that the first one has missing chunks :-\. Just look at the colors. I'll give you my personal oppinion, I like the newest lighter one although the middle floating platform chunk looks really out of place.

My only complaint with this is how the middle island (top one) is supported only once so it looks sorta unrealistic but meh, its nothing humongous. Maybe you could just throw in a background scenery behind the rock with like a darker rock shade or something to give the feel like you are "in" the rock when you pass through it? Just a thought. Cheers, blacksheepboy!

Edit: And of course, you get a download :D haha. forgot to add that. more feedback to come.
Edit2: Oh, and on the layout...it sorta appears like the entire structure of the map is floating on the water...dunno if thats the idea? Maybe you could add a darker background (since its a cavern i guess) and edit the water scenery to fit the exact placement of your poly structure on the bottom. Just a thought again...while im speaking outloud and all. Cheers again!

Texture job hurts the eyes, it makes no sence, did you even use the Textured Quad tool? or did you just map the polygons. Also the map will have icky gameplay, the dm style isnt like that...

Humm what style of gameplay do you think it would fit?

Yeah, stuff still needs to be done. I'll get to it sometime...If it's worth it.

What is it? I don't like that... You have fuel, don't need stairs... (If it is a stair)

I believe that the structure you are pointing out Niko is actually ruins or something similar to it. I rather like it because it provides some defense against those from above or below depending on where you are situated on the map.

@BSB: maybe you could show more rubble below the "ruins" (assuming that the structure is in fact a ruin of sorts) to kinda give off that ancient "i've-been-here-for-years-omg-mayan-look" or something.

Hmm alright. Yes, it is suppose to resemble some sort of ruin...I'll fix it up in my next and hopefully final version (which will include some degree of waypointing). When I initially made that, it was just to provide cover and fill up space.

Oh, and that texture I'm using is some random one I threw together at one point. I'll figure around with the texture stretching and such to make it look more like it was actually multi-texured correctly.

Ahaha, quite right. This was a throw-together job. Not much effort when it came to the polygon placement :-. Well...guess this was for experimentation mainly. Wanted to see what I could do in a shorter amount of time. Here's the result :). Since I've waypointed it, it doesn't feel quite right either. I'll release the waypointed version, pack everything together thoroughly, then be finished.

Thanks for the feedback.

Version 0.85ish: Final Release

I won't be working on this anymore. It just isn't coming together and I can't quite picture what I'd want done on this. It isn't quite finished as I'm not quite satisfied with it's current design, but due to the lack of time and motivation, I have no interest in continuing.

Updates from Previous to Version 0.85ish:

  • Added some new scenery
  • Messed around with a little bit of polygon placement
  • Added health polys under the rum bottles on the left hand side by the crates
  • Added full set of functioning waypoints although they could use some revamping

Alls good. Bots will do what they need to do (circulate around the map somewhat), although they'll die before running into any waypointing bugs :).

This will be my last map release for quite some time. I'm taking a break by taking a month-long road trip across the country, so I'll be enjoying my computer-free month away from home-life ;).
