Religion is okay because it makes us all different, and difference is what makes people interesting individuals. If we all believed the same it would be boring...

But there are alot of evil people out there, religious leaders who use their religion to manipulate those that have faith into destroying the lives of others and committing terrible evil.

Let's face it... when did you last hear about an Atheist terrorist?

People are still interesting individuals no matter what they're beliefs are.

Imagine a world where there was only one type of music... Country folk music for example... and that it wasn't possible to create any other type of music because there was no other type. You would get bored of it and then sick to death of it. - Even if you like Country Folk music.

I see what you're trying to get at, but we're not talking about music are we? Now imagine a world where everyone was Atheist? Do you think people will become bored with eachother? I don't think so. We still have different musical tastes, we still enjoy different genres in television and film.

Okay I do agree with you on this, but what I was originally saying was I think it's healthy to have such differences in opinion so long as they are not the cause of something bad.

Like Jihad...

The difference is healthy, but you'll always have some rednecks who will act immature and primitive and fuck everything up.

Like more religions is the spice of life? Maybe, but religions are a way of life, not a choice of relaxation. It's easier to have a hardcore rocker in a society than a radicalised [insert religion]-ist.

I'd say being dead is close to being asleep or having a cycle collapse, while you're "at it", your senses numb and you feel almost nothing since your brain either goes into a kind of standby or refuses to work because of lack of oxygen... The dead is imo exactly like this numbening of feelings (without dreams or anything ;Q), just much stronger.

Regarding stuff like "If it existed, where did the Big Bang come from":
I think causality and time are categorys of our mind and actually don't exist the way we might think they do. A state like the Big Bang is such an event, that many "usual" physical rules will exposure or totally new ones apply... We can't really tell, can we?
I also heard of this theory that says, that the Big Bang is actually part of a huge cycle, once the universe drifted apart to it's maximum dilation, everything breaks back down resulting in giant black holes that will then all join together, concentrating all existing matter in one big black hole which will shrink and shrink even more... and once all matter is contracted within the tiniest bit of a point, the Big Bang just happens again. Ofcourse such cycle would take aeons... Well it's just a theory ;D

I also don't believe in the freewill of humans. I am a very happy man allthough I believe in all this physics stuff and don't believe in any godlike entity ;)

Yeah? Can you imagine people saying "If there would be only one planet on which you could live... you'd get bored with it"? Maybe since you wouldn't know there can be anything apart from the country folk, you wouldn't get bored with it.

And Mangled*, it's true. Atheists don't wage war over atheism... They just go online and tell Christians and muslims (mostly christians) that they're all dumb fucks and they don't understand anything.

God like entities are just excuses people make up to make sure that they stay as 'good' people. There probably is no real higher being but the thought there is one delivers (most of) us from evil =]

I thought obscenity was a sin!!! Pray for forgiveness or go to hell.

And I think you'll find that we are all entitled to express whatever opinion we like. There was an 'Ask a Christian' thread so I made an 'Ask an Atheist' thread.

Atheism is very misunderstood and is treated with upmost hostility by many religious people. I think you'll find one of the reason Atheists predominantly have a problem with Christianity is because the New Testament clearly states that anyone who does not believe in God or Jesus Christ is a sinful heretic and should be treated so. Also, Christianity is so diverse in that it reaches out to convert people and tell people what to believe, unlike Islam and Judaism which keep themselves to themselves, and which to not call at your door or stop you in the street, bombarding you with propaganda.

As I said before, every atheist I know doesn't hate religion. Sure we can't understand some parts of it because of it's illogical assumptions but I can't stress enough that I respect anyone's religion and thats it.

I as an atheist believe in that all people are equal, I believe in science and that everything can be explained in some way or another.

a true atheist doesnt hate religion a true athiest knows that others are wasting their time and they keep that to themselves. A real atheist just ignores religious people because argueing with them brings you to their level.

There is no "level".

Unless there is a possitive height difference between those of differing religious opinion regardless of geographical origin and ancestry.

Okay then lets consider there's 4 levels...

level 1: unopinionated and completely open minded (agnostics)
level 2: opinionated and slightly open minded (some people)
level 3: opinionated and closed minded but respectful to an extent (most people)
level 4 strongly opinionated, unreasonable, arguementative and completely closed minded to the extent of ignorance. (a few people)

I'm level 3.

I don't mean to be rude, but if your saying there is no higher being, that means that humans are the highest being, and if we are, were all screwed. That's my two bits.
