Need some Help
« on: September 23, 2007, 05:47:27 pm »
I'm now living in some dorms and I can't play soldat online. They have a few sites blocked and they've got a router. It won't let me load the server list or anything. Is there a site that has top be unblocked? If so wat site. Or do I have to open ports in the router? if so which ones. Thanks guys.

Tried using the All Seeing Eye? To my knowledge it shouldn't be blocked for any reason and I used it for a long time instead of the real lobby.

Also http://rr.soldat.pl

The ASE tends to only have a small portion of Soldat Servers, whereas the lobby has many more.

When that happens to me, it means the server doesnt exist or isnt up at the moment, now if its the same for you im not sure, but try a popular server... go to the u13 website or www.elitectf.com and test it, if you still cant get in, i cant help you  :D

OK, but isn't it necessary to open ports in the router? If the ports arn't open then I wouldn't be able to join. I can't get the server list when I request it in soldat and when I look at the servers on http://rr.soldat.pl I can't join the game. I even tried putting the IP and Port in soldat and I can't join. do I need to open  ports in the router??????

Yeah. At this point you may need to resort to port forwarding. If you are able to open ports on your router then I recommend this site: http://portforward.com/default.htm. They offer guides for many different makes of routers.

If you are able to access your router via html interface, have administrator access then you are able to specify ports you want open.

If you don't have admin access, you can look online and look up your make. Usually there are default access names and passwords for each brand. DO NOT do that though if you specifically don't have any permission to open ports. It would be considered hacking. Instead then, call up the tech for your building, tell him or her exactly why you want ports 27073, 27083, etc open and that they're totally harmless to the network that you're on. Ie. There's no way you could download any viruses, trojans, etc from Soldat servers.

Most techs are aware that a good portion of computer users play networked games and wouldn't close off all ports, especially in a dorm. Only in a business or at a site of public access (classroom or library computer lab) would everything be restricted save for http (port 80). There should be no prob at all if other online games work such as WoW or Steam games.

That's the best help I can offer.

If all else fails then you may have to resort to using an http-tunnel or SSH-tunnel. That's a bit more tricky though. I dunno much about tunnelling however, I never needed to use it.
