Need help on a map...
« on: November 20, 2007, 03:46:39 pm »
Well, I'm making a new map, and I ain't gonna leave it unfinished this time... The layout is based on Keron Cyst's drawing .  I already made all polys and did some shading but I can't think of any good scenery for this map... I want the map to be either pasture like or Jungle like.... I can add some water too in the right low corner... Any ideas as to how to change the layout or shading, and any idea on what kind of scenery to use and where to fins it??

ehmmm... Calypso is a already taken name, it's one of VTT great maps... get another one...
I can't help you now, good luck with it, the enly thing i don't like is the "paper" shading you did.

He means it looks... Crumpled?? I guess... Im not sure though... But I think it looks cool  :)
It would also be nice if it had some water...

Wow, that's a very neat realization of my sketch! :) I really like the shading, and it seems that the only real problem I have with the layout is the thin border (compared to the super-thick boulders) and the flat, boring line at the bottom, now that I see what it looks like on a map. See if you can come up with some kind of jagged pathway for the bottom area, perhaps with another boulder or two.

Scenery should definitely be jungle-style. The BG colors match the polygon colors very well and establish an excellent atmosphere. Try looking to Flashback & Jungle for inspiration.

Instead of a pond, how about simple raining weather? Although water could fit well, too

Yes, I too think the border should be thicker.. I was also thinking of just making the polys on the edge black and just make the background black too but i think that ten it would mess the map up unlesst I made some background scenery for the inside...  For the borking line in the bottom... I was thinking water there nd that would make some changes to the low right corner cuz it would (IMO) have to be lower tan it is now.

Thx for all the comment's and I'll update u on whats going on when I'm done improving the map...

Right down corner border is still small.
Stretch the texture, damnit! It looks hell plain!

Can't you make it with a 3D like effect?  :-\
That stretching isn't still enough.

Does it have to be 3d?? I don't even know how to make it.... and stretching is my weakest point... but I'll work on it.

It's very easy, just use the Texture tool and start stretching randomly everywhere.  :D

Well, I also made the grass go in front of pollies not behind and I had to add some polygons in the top right corner cuz when I made the outer region transparent some pieces of root scenery that was supposed to be invisible was appearing... so some polygons have 0 % opacity and some have 50% opacity...
