The Soldat torrent tracker is back. I had one set up on a U13 machine for the release or 1.4.0, but did not maintain it since I knew that MM would soon be getting his own server.
Well now there's a tracker running on his server, and I intend to maintain it consistently. The stats page for it can be accessed at:

http://static.soldat.pl/torrentsI will talk to MM and considering allowing other torrents to be tracked, for items such as large videos and whatnot. I don't know what the demand for something like this is at the moment.
For the uninitiated, torrents are a decentralized way to distribute files over a network of users. The use of torrents helps reduce load on file/distribution servers, which is very good for open-source and independent projects/developers with limited funding. During the 1.4.0 release this saved quite a bit of bandwidth usage.
Popular torrents include:
uTorrent (Windows only)
Azureues (Linux, Windows, Mac, etc.)
BitComet (Windows)
and many others. Please consider using torrents for future releases of Soldat, or anything else you download from other sites that offers torrents as a possible download alternative.
Please consider seeding any of the Soldat torrents. The main download server for Soldat is constantly seeding these files, but the more seeds and peers there are in the network, the less load goes to the server. Ultimately, this will allow me to remove the server from the mesh as torrents have enough seeds to sustain themselves.
