Only one category (under Misc or Soldat Fans) to make requests.
Posts should be tagged, of course. Need at least 50 posts and have been member for two weeks to start a new topic.
Give topic starters ability to lock own topic, if request is fulfilled.
We're probably thinking a lot of requests could easily be taken care of with a simple search
- Sometimes there are too many irrelevant topics to shuffle through
- The request is very specific
- There are posts in the Soldat Forums Archive or other forums that are helpful
- There are some items that are hard to search for (demos, WMs, avatars, sigs, webpages)
- Even if there is an existing resolution to the request, the more the merrier?
Why?
- Requests that ARE solved with a search will be resolved.
- Modders, mappers, etc can find inspiration.
- Make it easier for members to contribute to the community. (good thing for the most part?)
Will people use it?
- A lot of people don't make requests because there is no formal place to put it.
- We've seen the "Make me something" thread (or something like that) get pretty popular.
- People who want to start projects (
Example)
Why is it better to have a big request forum than just posting requests in "Discussion" boards?
- More people see it, with different ideas and perspectives
- Some requests (listed below) don't really fit anywhere
- Of course, clean up the other boards.
- It's easier to manage requests like this.
[mod]
[map] - I'm sure people would like to request custom maps for their server.
[int] - interface
[gfx]
[sfx]
[txt] - Tauntlist, translations
[bot]
[wm] - Weapon mod
[spt] - Scripts
[ava]
[sig]
[vid] - Videos (maybe someone has demos and wants it to be a video)
[dem] - Demos (tourney, CWs, or random footage to make video)
[com] - Comic.
[web] - Website (if someone needs design, code, etc)
[ser] - People can ask for R/S server, or climbing server, etc
[app]
[dow] - Downloads (Soldat versions, BE Updates)
[tut]
[mre] - Map Resources
The biggest problem, I think, is which category the board should go.
