WW2.
ww2 ended in 1945
Chernobyl exploded in 1986
They mean the Cold War. You know, the giant United States clusterfeck that lasted from roughly 1945-1990.

The game actually has nothing to do with any sort of war, dude.

I'm afraid it was a nuclear reactor meltdown, not a nuclear bomb. A nuclear accident, not an attack.

Unless of course it turns out in the plot that it was an attack... :o

Yeah the visuals are really good and with the faikes mod it looks even better maxed @ 1920x1200!

Oh yeah? Well I play with all low detail settings and static lighting at 1024x768! Sometimes it even gets up to 25 fps if I'm lucky!

Play in 800 x 600 and you just might be able to set one of the settings to medium. Anyway human eyes only see at 25fps so anything over 75fps is useless and wasteful.

Most of the game averages at around 13 fps no matter what settings I use. It's a wonder that I ever managed to get as far as I have.

No, it's a meltdown. Unless I am horribly misinformed, the setting's around the reactor of Chernobyl after yet a second meltdown.

I've only played stalker once and I'm downloading the demo now, although I know I'm not going to buy it. It's an awesome game but I ain't got no money for that shit.

More like 72 FPS

edit: Just checking now, the human eye can see and respond even faster than that.

The brain can process ~25 images per second, or so I was told when I studied human physiology.

I've always heard it was 60.  Either way, it's definately not as low as 25 by a long shot.  Play a game capped at 25 FPS and then play a game at 60+ FPS.  You can easily tell the difference.

about the FPS a human eye can see: http://whisper.ausgamers.com/wiki/index.php/How_many_FPS_human_eye_can_see read the last paragraph.

anyway... stalker is a nice game, but i think it got pretty boring after a while. constant backtracking made me dislike it.

Stalker has some very memorable moments, but its actually kind of an unfinished or 'unpolished' game in many places, especially in the developers eyes....it'll take patience to play this game to get to the good bits. Which is why they're making a sequel with a new care-free publisher..

..nothing will surpass your first encounter with a psychic brain humper though..
