Flamer[normal]
« on: January 14, 2009, 07:30:46 am »
...needs a buff in normal. Does literally almost no damage, Flame 'God' is more like a two way street, 'I can't attack you, you can't attack me'.

Make it so being immolated does more damage in normal. At the moment it only seems like the Flamer is good against stationary targets, and it nerves me that such an awesome weapon is lacking in cool factor.

the flamer is a deadly weapon, but only offline, cause the "im on fire" damage is being eaten online
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

Actually, the Flamer is very powerful (even overpowered). As long as you get in range and get burned by at least 2 flames, you're as good as dead.

Ah, but the problems of lag and ping between BOTH attacker and victim seem to make the Flamer do no damage. It's more of a problem with the netcode than a problem with its weapon balance. That, plus the fact that the Flamer's fires damage registers not immediately but a few ticks after the flame sticks onto you, makes the Flamer seem weak. If you move, you receive less damage than if you stand still.

If you want to try out what I mean by "the Flamer's fires damage registers not immediately but a few ticks after the flame sticks onto you", try changing your weapon.ini stats for the Flamer - modify the Flamer's damage to 900000 - then test it out. This damage would be instant kill for ANY gun, but it seems for the Flamer it'd take a few ticks before the enemy dies. This shows that it takes some time for the damage to register.

Try entering a server with extremely low ping to you and then burning someone with equally low ping in that server. Or if you are shooting a bot (even if you have high ping), all you need to do is adjust your aim towards where the bot is moving (applies for all weapons). You'd see the Flamer work real wonders.

The Flamer is a subject of debate when it comes to bonuses, since it has gone through many changes over time.

1. Originally, the Flame God box granted temporary invincibility and the temporary usage of a Flamer until the timer runs out. You were able to switch weapons, but as a result of this, players were able to glitch and be permanently be able to use the Flamer (but losing the weapon the Flamer replaced permanently). In terms of stats, the Flamer had a VERY short range and VERY low damage, and the fire doesn't stick onto a Soldaten.

2. Later, you weren't able to switch weapons in Flame God. It gained more range, more damage, and the ability for its fire to stick onto Soldaten.

3. In 1.2.0 and 1.2.1, the Flame God box didn't grant invulnerability. Instead, it allowed you to use the Flamer temporarily for a longer period of time.

4. From 1.3.0 onwards, the Flame God box and Flamer works like it does now - invulnerability and all, except with less damage (until around 1.4.0, where the damage is increased and the balance is what it is now). It only lasts 10 seconds but you KEEP the Flamer. You are able to throw the Flamer (whereby the Flamer simply disappears and you DON'T get back the weapon it replaced), but if you did so online, you'd realize your Flamer is stuck onto you ; you couldn't throw it.

In Realistic mode, the Flamer has a longer range.

you can see the pure power of the flamer on a zombie server, it is a bit weaker than offline, but you will see the difference

and watch for fire lag ;)

Main problem is it works awfully with almost any lag, and the flames cause lag. I see problems.

all I use it for is getting my hp back, the only way to kill someone with it is to use nades, you can let yourself explode with it cuz you can't be hurt.

^ You can even eat a DIRECT hit from a M79/Flamed Arrows/LAW and not die. Though you'd be at 1hp, meaning you'd die in one shot when your invulnerability is over, unless you pick up a medkit.
