Minimap or not?
« on: April 22, 2008, 06:57:33 am »
I don't think there is a topic like this (I did a search) but I'd like to know whether you registered players use the minimap or not. Personally, I don't use it because it gets in the way and sort of puts me off when playing. I know it can be advantageous as you know where your team mates are, and can make calls ("incoming low" etc) but the minimap just bothers me..   :-\

So do you use the minimap? Why or why not?

Most time I don't even remember to turn it on ;D. It can really help when somebody from your time is predator. You can give him some fire cover without hiting him.

When it was first introduced, I hardly ever used it, but recently I've been finding it very useful. It allows me to track the ffc and is also useful for climbing maps ;D.

Just get into the habit of f2'ing every now and then, I never thought the minimap was very useful but when I started using it, it can benefit your tactics and gameplay a lot more.

you usually know where your team mates are, it CAN be used to see when and where they die, and where FFC is. But I have managed well without it.  IF I'm gonna use it it will be a few times to know where FFC is, but I don't think I want to loose my focus by pressing on and off F2

at least you should be able to choose another key for the minimap.

I have checked some players(members of vortex), and the result was NONE of them use the map

I use it, mainly because I'm one of those people who likes to make calls. Really, most of my taunts are dedicated to "Enemy Flag Carrier escaping high (^)" and the like.
I tend to just turn it on and leave it on; I find it less intrusive than the names floating around the corners of the screen.

The minimap has never caused my computer to lag a at all, but even at my 1280*1024 Soldat resolution it can be distracting when I'm not looking at it. I am, however, starting to get in the habit of turning it on when I want to find my cuddly little FFC to protect him from the raging Bravos.

Giving players a clear strategic advantage for registering still annoys me.

That's obvius....

The minimap allows me to see where is the flagger in pointmach :D It's really useful when you wanna catch him.

Also, in CTF/Realistic servers is very useful, because you know where are you teammates, so there you don't shot. And when somebody dies, you know the enemy is near where he died....

Still unfair, though...

Check it every now and then to see where FFC or my teammates are.  Otherwise, I never use it.

I think this is a feature that should be available for all players, same with the resolution.  It'll probably be changed like in 1.2.1 with the demo recording feature.

I find minimap very useful, especially on maps I don't know well. When it's 'allowing' server, it's always on - it doesn't cover anything since it's half transparent and movable.
That's balanced advantage for registered. I love it.

just read the names that are on the edge of the screen.... it tells you who died, who's the ffc, and where they are

I don't use it since I never have time to check it, and I'm also used to play without it.

It's weird I've never thought about that, hah.

Only occasionally; it's hella useful for finding where teammates are, and, as a result, a good way to ditch pursuers onto said teammates as the flag runner. I don't really use it that much outside of those kinds of checks.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

Though I'm not registered, I have seen the minimap before.

I guess its pretty useful. I can see what's going on around the map and track my teammates if need be, and even plan some tactics. It is far more reliable than looking at the names, because it doesn't tell you their exact location. For example, I thought a teammate was going left and then down to cap the flag and doesn't need backup at Inf_Fortress. However, it turns out that he ran all the way to the left, allowing his pursuers to catch up and eventually, in a situation in which he could have capped, the flag was returned.
