The stream time isn't dropped very much.  The video I took the screenshots in was very short tho, a longer vid may need to be put down to lower quality.

For those of you saying "Just click the watch in high quality button", that only appears on (mostly) newer videos that actually have that option available from the start. For most of the older ones, you'll need to add the &fmt=18 code manually. This is from my experience, anyway.

TO MUCH ANIMEE

So what?  If you don't like it don't watch it.  Just like people who say "You're actually gonna eat that?" during a meal.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

Sort of... generally when somebody says "Are you gonna eat that" it means "Give me your food"

Read again, and you'll see I was speaking of something else entirely.

I believe it's only those newer videos that have a full quality version available. Doing &fmt=18 on a video that lacks the high quality link should stream the same low quality version.

Yeah, I tried adding it to some older videos. Didn't improve anything.

TbC your example isn't very good, try taking screens at the same point in the vid so we can compare properly, it looks like two completely different areas.

Much better :)

I found a trailer for Hulk 2008, in true HD, but every 30 seconds the video would pause to catch up with streaming.  It's best to let movies stream all the way at the beginning before you watch.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the image I posted was in 1080p Full HD

Hmm, seems to me like its some kind of sharpen filter. Must be something that they are experimenting with.
No, YouTube keeps all the original versions of the uploads.
What you see is a re-encode of the original file at higher quality settings.
