Fecty keyboard
« on: July 18, 2008, 10:20:52 pm »
My keyboard is fecked up.

the characters don't match on the keys, this is only for some symbols, but it is really annoying.

Tilde key gives me these: <>
the slash key that isn't this slash '/': `~
The , button gives me commas only, it shows < and , but only gives me ,
Same with period key

I bet it is something to do with my drivers, but on the microsoft website I need the product name thingy, and its handy link to find the product name tells me to turn it over, fecking great considering I have this problem on my laptop!

So how do I find the product name? I don't trust those sites that auto-detect the drivers you need.
Or is there generic drivers. Im in NZ but I have a picture of the keyboard layout attatched (Im not sure what layout is used).

Gee, the best advice I can give you is Control Panel.
Try going into keyboards (or possibly even hardware.)
There should be an option to see the properties of your keyboards (this includes the manufacturer and the product name.)

2 Questions:

What kind of laptop ya got?

What OS are you running?

Could you have spilt a drink on your keyboard? It can do that.

Dl a program where you can customise your keyboards key bindings.
Google it, it works well. I wish I could give you the site link to the one I used, but I totally forget where I got it from.

(I'm in the same boat, my h key is broken, So I shifted it to another key binding.)
Unless you'd prefer to find the problem, I'm aware your keyboard isn't broken, mine was which is why it's changed.
Lol, internets.

have you recently changed any keyboard layout settings, or even what language you see stuff in on your computer?

Forgot about that, acer aspire 4315 (the picture isn't exactly of my laptop), Vista home basic.

I'll try that if I can't fix it some other way :P, my dad is all anal about installing programs and stuff.

That would be even more annoying. And I didn't have a choice as to what kind of computer we got, it's a family computer.

Portable :)  Good for taking notes during lectures

Also, if you're using an MDG, it's easier to send back! (spoken like a true typical and arrogant Dell user)

Could be the acer. My friend has a similar model and had the same problem. However, he was using the Canadian language settings (very little difference. Color -> Colour; accents pour français (like a special shift key); and french-Canadian currency: $100000 -> 100,000$)
Erm.. if changing to US English (EN) doesn't fix it, try a binding editor. There should be some decent freeware ones. If Windows doesn't have one, I'll eat my socks. ALSO check the acer site for patches, updates, and plugins.

Good luck. Take it easy :)

Chutem, I know you need help on the keyboard, but geez, calm down. You're getting grumpy.
