using textures and sounds in multiplayer
« on: September 04, 2008, 09:18:39 pm »
Like counter strike, Servers have their own textures and sounds to make their server unique and more fun. For example, a player wants to play a zombie mode. He simply connects to a server that has textures and sounds for zombie mode. So he simply waits till the download is done and enjoy his game.
I don't think downloading files will take long.. it'd be good for everyone

Everybody hates having to DL maps upon joining a server to find that much of the scenery can be missing, I dont know anything about soldat's netcode relations to this issue but I would be willing to bet that if a map texture or weapon sound wasn't able to DL upon connection, It would certainly cause far worse problems.  Let's keep it at map scenery until we can fix it, imo.

Stuff related to this has been going around.

Like what most people posted in that above topic, they'd agree that "I don't want to download for a long time only to discover that all the stuff I downloaded are complete rubbish." and the fact that we actually "do not know what we are downloading."

Besides, it'd take up a lot of space and people prefer to play their own mods because they LIKE their OWN mods more than those that others have. It's a matter of personal preference here. Who'd want to download something that they don't like and find that what they already have is what they like best and what they feel most comfortable with?

One of the things I hate in CS is the random crap blasted in my ears that I had to wait to download that I don't even want in the first place. F11.
