It won't be good though. Especially if your chainsaw was bigger than the original, then the fire there won't work properly - when you point it to the left instead of right, the fire sprite may look... a bit off.

Agreed. Minigun gfx are already implemented and most mods already have the proper gfx set up. Chainsaw would be a definite boon I'd like to see but that will cause issue for older mods [not like it matters since it's already crippling enough with the new 1.3->.4 WM changes].
