Automatic Updates
« on: October 28, 2008, 07:53:34 pm »
There are some ignorant people (kids) playing Soldat, and alot are still playing 1.4.1 and older (some are playing thinking it's the newest version and wondering why this awesome game is dead), the new version should have automatic updates like BE has. It will at least not have as many people playing out-dated versions. Like it would say: A new Soldat version (1.6) is available. Would you like to download it? Yes No More Info etc.

I'd rather it had some sort of notification, saying that there is a new version and providing a download link as opposed to automatically downloading it like Steam does, which can take a long time and can get really annoying.

There are some ignorant people (kids)
Not all kids are ignorant, you know.
There are other worlds than these

A lot of people play older versions of soldat simply because they like them more.
If you are using an old version of it and you attempt to join a new server, it gives you an error. That is notification enough.

I agree with jrgp. A notification would be nice.
However this is not a priority task.

Well that's what I meant, It wuld say A new Soldat version (1.6) is available. Would you like to download it? Yes No More Info etc.

And that's why I said "some" kids.

But will new servers show up when you press Request Servers? I thought not...

There is already an auto update system.
It's added in 1.4.1.

Sometimes, I'd like to play the old versions to enjoy myself for a while - see how it was like in the old days and have a feel of it. I might even use old versions to create my own mods to play in them in singleplayer on my own against bots.
