Shout Box

It might have been suggested before but I haven't seen it in the list of suggested things. It would be nice IMO if there was a shout box on the main page (the "Home" tab). Also guests shouldn't be able to write there and a time limit added to avoid spam, if that's possible to implement.

Because I still need to tweak the permissions somewhat.  They have gotten screwed up over the past 6 months and need to be looked at.

Shout boxes are some of the most unproductive and ugly pieces of junk I've ever encountered. They look unprofessional and allow any lame idiot a voice... smack dab on the front page of the site. No.

Anyway, this is a forum! It's like you're on a wicked tweaked-out shoutbox on steroids.

Living with the danger of being blackbagged for opposing the ruling force, I'm gonna say I'd actually enjoy such the feature. If a forumer could only post once an hour, and could recieve warnings for his posts there as well, I imagine it could be quite fun. Also, as said already, guests should not be able to use it, and posts shouldn't increase with it. And you should not be able to post twice in a row(in case no one posted for an hour).

A shoutbox is a spam box.

I don't think i've seen a forum with a shoutbox before, just 'normal' websites.  If it were placed on a forum, I think that'd just encourage spam

Yes, it would just be a redundant topic-less spam fest. Anyway, we have IRC channels for your live-chat satisfaction.

As I said, it's just a suggestion. I've been on few forums with shout box enabled only for registered users and it wasn't spammed at all. But thinking of it now, it might be kinda useless on such a big forums that Soldat Forums is...

Just lock the topic. Question was answered, problems were solved.

Shoutboxes are used more like a chat box. And we can always talk to each other on MSN, send PMs or simply post. So ultimately the shoutbox is only gonna be a spam box.

There's no spam here, no reason to lock the thread.  We don't lock threads just because the conversation may appear to have reached a logical end
