Phong shaded textures were a big leap from a few years ago and provide a shortcut towards photo-realistic environments whilst not actually consuming much memory to render considering what they can do. Graphics cards in a few years will have 2 or 3 gigs for being able to render realtime phong reflections on almost anything imaginable, and then we're going to be damn close to photo-realism. Texture memory will no longer be an issue, we've almost reached a point where texture resolution doesn't need to be any larger.

When we get there then console generations will slow down, there won't be as many leaps forward in technology.

they would probably still advance things like physics and ai though. soon we should be getting games where the developers dont have to code the characters, instead they could just tell a computer what they would want the character to look like and then they could focus on the fun stuff like gameplay

ive never played killzone

well i did once over a mates house but i hardly remember s**t like if the shields recharged or whatever

oh and the above is pretty much the same for halo

well not really the god but you seem to have good taste in them like like red orchestra. i thought you might know something cool thats coming out soon or within ........ the coming year

cause at the moment i have not got any games im looking forward to, like i always used to when i was in school and stuff like that

There's two games coming out Q1 2009 that I'm interested in. ArmA 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2. They're basically the same sort of game and I don't know how much of an advance they are really. However, they are ultra-realistic which is something that I've been wanting to try out.

I don't know why those games didn't come to my mind. I'm not looking forward to OFP2, since apparently it's dumbed down for the Call of duty 4 generation. I'm expecting ArmA2 to be glitchy but still fun.

It's nothing like Operation Flashpoint, and Codemaster's is making it more accesible to the "Let's tacticool the shit out of our weapon's" generation.

I'm not saying it won't be fun, I'm saying it won't be approved by the realism crowd, who Operation flashpoint was originally for.

DEFCON gets old very fast. There's only so much fun someone can get out of moving images of submarines around for 20 minutes whilst waiting for their missiles to hit and provide them with a numerical kill count which means absolutely nothing.

It certainly isn't worth money, regardless of how cheap they fob it off to you.

Well shit son, I guess you never placed down any aircraft carriers or battleships. You must have been wiped out in less then 5 minutes after Defcon 1 considering you only used Submarines.

That's similar to something a friend of mine is working on. He's got this elaborate prototype that has his Wiimote attached to his laptop fixed in place, pointed at an indoor window with paper on one side. The laptop is attached to a projector which projects the screen image on to the paper with horizontal axis reversed. He uses an LED or something attached to a glove (it looks really cool) to communicate with the laptop via the Wiimote's infrared-sensing capabilities. As the LED approaches the paper from the opposite side, the Wiimote sees a less diffuse dot until it registers and the net result is being able to click and drag on the window and have the projected image reflect the change. I don't have any video of this unfortunately.

Yeah my friend used the Wii-mote for motion tracking while he played IL-2. It's a bitch to setup on Vista though everytime you start up.
