Essence of Gamemaker (time-wasting funz)
« on: July 19, 2009, 07:01:06 am »
So I was using my old computer today and found these. Altogether these are worth about 30 minutes worth of time-wasting. I made all these back in 2006/2007 with Gamemaker 6, unreg'd version.

Instructions:
1. Play these when bored.
Exception - play when you want to f**k up some orcs while listening to techno (Jelgavan War).

Jelgavan War
Asteroids
Metroid: Complicated Style
Block Attack
Pong: Different
Circle-Man Adventures!
Maze Game
Project Classix

I swear this isn't freeware garbage! Each archive includes an "Instruction.txt" file that explains how to play, as well as explaining some extra useful stuff (like what the mini-game is).

Do you still have the source code of Pong? And if so, can I have it? I'd like to come make some games with Gamemaker like I did before, but I'm such a noob that I don't know how to start from scratch, and I'd like to see some example.

Gamemaker is for those who are too lazy to learn a code language to do games in it.

I might test it.
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

I used to play with it a lot two years ago and I even knew how to use that scripting language to make some advanced stuff. But I've tasted how it is being in a real game project with other people and modeling,, texturing and animating for XNA.

Now a new project awaits and we'll be using the Source Engine.

OBEY!!!

How long do your projects take sheepy? I'm no programmer [C++ class died for me as soon as we got to calls] and even Gamemaker scripts are unintelligible to me. Would you care to explain in a PM what exactly the various scripts mean?

Aye. It's true.

Sure Espadon. But first, I'm going to run through a few things - maybe see if I can't add bonuses to the Jelgavan War game, like starting enemies on fire. I might also look up some tutorials on timings, proper room changing, and enemy life (so that not every enemy is a one-shot kill).

I'm just really rusty on how it all works. Haven't used Gamemaker in ~a year and a half :-\

Edit:

Oh my goodness. There's so much I could do, and plenty of ways to do each thing. This is why I wouldn't want to learn serious coding: my brain tries to wrap itself around every variable in the situation, which is fine; but then it tells me how much unappealing work needs to be done to accomplish something very simple and pointless. Yay, now I have a roadmap to accomplishing something! but it feels too useless. There are already plenty of games like Jelgavan War and Asteroids.

I might as well hunt down some good flash games if I want this type of entertainment.
