Perilous high-seas adventure.
« on: July 27, 2009, 10:13:35 pm »
I guess this map might be useful if someone has a pirate mod or for law catch or something.
I did this one up pretty quick, and it's rather deliberately a huge sprayfest. Your best bet to get to the enemy ship is to climb up to the crow's nest and then fly across the gap. Although I forgot to add a screenshot demonstrating it, there are also, in the shallow parts of the water, small, invisible, slippery triangles that you can use to 'swim' with some luck, which could get you to the other side if your stat guns are keeping the other team off their guns. The floors are thin, meaning if you get across with a saw or m79, you can do serious damage. Also, you can camp-hide behind the sail on the enemy boat.
Not much more to say.

Not waypointed.

The map looks realistic. I like this map.

Ah man, this is a really cool map. It's one of those maps that you'd want to play on a server, but know that it's a rare chance it'll happen.

As for lacking detail, who gives a rip on this map. The detail included is sufficient enough. There is such a thing as ruining a simple map with aesthetics.

Edit

Mind making the 'swimming triangles' a little more apparent? I found that I couldn't make it to the other ship by 'swimming' as I'd die far too frequently while trying to find the icy polygons.

Thanks!
I suppose I could make them like the ladder behind the sail, just a slight bit visible...
I'll edit and attach when I've done that.

edit: Set them to shock-white and opacity 5%. I think it's a little more visible in the game than in the pic.
Wanted them to be something you only see if you know what to look for, I love maps with secrets like that.

I remember seeing something similar to this on the multi mod, with very low jets and a man cannon to launch you over to the other ship. This looks really suitable for something like that.

The map's been hosted on the |TA| Trenchwars server, and is frequently used for knife-only even though I whine that it's more suited for Saw&Law. Fawks (my clan leader) offered to do some scenery stuff, which ended up as manowar2 and manowar3. Then I re-edited manowar3 to do some polygon work- making the swimming blocks visible, opening up the turret range of fire- and tidy stuff up. This made the current version, manowar4. I'm not sure where all the sceneries came from, you'd have to ask him.

Saws are super effective inside ships due to the thin walls, but the stats can also shoot through walls for the same reason. Hiding in the mast is fun, sniping from behind the sail is horrendous, all in all it plays in a very chaotic way and I'm happy with it.

wow I like this alot, But what about adding some more sceneries and details :>

what I'd like to see is 2 ships in some kind of 3D mode. But I think that's only possible if you use sceneries as ships but that would be pretty awesome.

I thought something like this kind of 3d, but with ships ofc.
