The 5th mapping contest: Asymmetric CTF
« on: September 03, 2009, 12:12:42 am »
Idea of Contest:
Let's get fun and good team balanced maps done! You are allowed to test/fix team balance at #soldat.mapping.

Special info:
What's asymmetric map for contest? A ctf map that doesn't have any symmetric parts, in other words, something like Nuubia but not like Laos, I wish you understand the point. Make each half different.

Deadline: 30.9.2009

Sounds good, but the deadline should be 15th november in my opinion. Lets get some good maps instead of fast-done things.

I don't mean to limit creativity here, but can we limit each person to like one or two entries?  Would make voting slightly less hectic, and give Wraithlike an easier time setting up the poll topic.
For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

Last contest had 4 maps, because it was about using .GIF in the maps and GIF is something not many mappers used till now.

Speaking of balanced asymmetric map, take a gander at Boxo's ctf_Xenonia and ctf_Argonia.

I'll try to enter a map for this contest, but school and several projects for some people have been taking up my time.  The layout also will take time, as it's difficult to make a completely asymmetric map that's almost perfectly balanced.
It lurks in the deep, waiting for the perfect moment to strike...

There's balance almost in every layout. It's just how you set the spawns. For example Nuubia's balance would turn upside down if we'd removed the bravo spawn near center.

Will try to get a map done by the deadline this time.

What's asymmetric map for contest? A ctf map that doesn't have any symmetric parts, in other words, something like Nuubia but not like Laos, I wish you understand the point. Make each half different.
Maps with similar bases/layout are not allowed then? Just wanted to confirm before I start.

Correct. At least that's the goal.
