ctf_Iron

ctf_Iron my newest map and also my first ctf map

as this is my first ctf map i would really like some comments on it cause i know that ctf is a quite hard map to make beside dm so tips and comments will make me wiser:)

the map is in a irontheme with brown colours and so on

i wanted to make this map because i wanted to make a small but big ctf map..
so i made the border size small but the inside of the border big because of the 4 routes.

the routes are

Upper: Safer than some of the others and with a chance of getting exclusive bonuses

Mid-upper: Fast and therefor crowded and dangerous as it leads to the flag and enemy spawn

Mid-Lower: The same as mid upper with the difference that it is a little slower but you can go from there to lower to avoid your enemy

lower: Slower than the mid's but safer and with a chance to pick up nades. and you can also go from there to mid-lower in few steps

i wanted to try the "light" shading technic mixed with custom shadings so this is what came out:)

comment and critic:)

enjoy-----Scerip

In my opinion, the flags are too close to the center. So I made a lil' sketch. Anyone is free to agree or refute this.

My suggestion is to do something to this affect:

ahh yeah good idea:) then you also have a more smooth way from upper and down because you dont have to stop at the edge to fall down:)

ill edit it later today

thanks for the suggestion=)

while blacksheepboy may be right that they are to close to the center. I would rather expand the middle then move the flags. as where they are placed now gives you more choices on how to grab the flag which should give you a more exciting game. for example as they are placed now you have the ability to spray the flag so it falls down low and grab it there. which you will miss out on when moving the flags like in the sketch.

well middle parts are probably my weak point however I would probably do something like this:

basically just cut the map in the middle and add a bridge on the middle path.
probably wont hurt to add a few more poly island as well.

I wouldn't have the middle dip down. Honestly, just smoothen the very middle part, because the very middle part is too sharp that it can cause poly bugs. Afterwards, highlight your entire middle section, and go to properties and make the X value = around 125-150. Voila, your map's design isn't altered because it's a decent design, and now it isn't way too small.

Playtested at #soldat.mapping. Dunno if that's your purpose, but flag tend to drop down into center bottom, so it lays there at top of deadly polys and invisible, so basically team has to wait until flag returns automatically.

The map design is pretty simple. It doesn't have bridges or any else "specialties". The multiple polyislands makes it a bit m79 dreamland.

The basic gameplays are fine, all routes are used, not too easy attack/defend and I had fun there.

Map looks very good, especially when considering that you are new mapper.

Hey, that's not too bad!

I sort of like the color of the map.
