BUMP THIS ONCE YOU HIT CHAPTER 17, AND SAY SOMETHING LIKE "I can't believe I'm already halfway done with this."
Other potential comparisons for the post title included "a grad student whose thesis is due the next day" and "a courtroom stenographer."
Yeah. Moving on.
So, hello SoldatForums! You may remember me from such threads as
Gamer_2k4 writing a story? Nah...yeah?,
Gamer_2k4's Literary Adventure, Part 2, and
Gamer_2k4 travels further down the paths of authorship. Well, today I'm here to tell you that I've doubled my output since my last post. There are now eleven, count them, ELEVEN chapters ready for your review and thoughtful consideration. I know it's daunting, and I know that since roughly zero people read them the last time, my prospects this time aren't much better. Even so, I'll continue to jump at chances like this to share my work and get some insightful criticism, and perhaps even prompt certain forum members to do some writing of their own (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE).
For those of you thinking, "What kind of tool just slaps down a bunch of writing and expects people to read it without even knowing what they're getting into?", I have fantastic news. I was forced to summarize my book for my authonomy.com profile, and I shall repeat that here for you.
Markus is a sixteen year old who’s lived in Switzerland all his life. However, as an earthquake in Spain brings with it swarms of robotic attackers, he is drafted to defend Europe from the new threat. Over the course of several dozen battles, Markus is forced to re-evaluate his worth as an individual and as a human being, as well try to understand his motivations for fighting. His relationships with others form the basis of these revelations, and they shape his understanding of morality and humanity as he decides what's truly important in life.
So, if that appeals to you, take a look, and let me know what you think. PDF versions of the chapters are here, each begun with a handy summary of the preceding chapter. I've also included the names of the upcoming chapters, all the way until the book's conclusion.

If for some reason you happen to have a profile on authonomy.com, you can take a look at the story here:

Finally, if you accomplish the prestigious feat of making it through all 11 chapters, you may find that they end on sort of a dark note. That's simply a side effect of posting the chapters once I got to a nice round number, rather than when I had reached a suitable break point. (And before you say "11 isn't round!" know that I actually finished Chapter 11 before Chapter 10 because it was more interesting to me, so I had to delay the post.) The story will continue for another 20-25 chapters, so don't worry; there's plenty of time for things to change.

A big thanks to anyone who actually takes the time to read these and helps me out with their thoughts and criticisms!
EDIT: From my own experience just now, it takes about NUMBER hours to read the whole thing. Just a heads up.
