PC problems
« on: December 26, 2009, 05:53:43 am »
I´ve got some new computerproblems that I was not able to fix myself.

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3
CPU Type Unknown but 2000 MHz
2048 RAM
GraphicCard Radeon X1300 Series (x2)

1) I start my computer.
2) I start any game that uses 3D graphics like Guild Wars or Flyff.
3) I can play for a couple of minutes, diversifying from 3-10 minutes, then my screen freezes a little bit (like 2 to 3 seconds) and I can play again for about 10 seconds, but then my screen turns black, everything is black excluding my cursor that looks normal as ever.

I can get back to my desktop normally by pressing ALT+F4. I can use my computer as used to, only thing I can´t do until I restarted is playing any game. Soldat says it couldn´t initialize DirectX8 graphics and I´d need to install DirectX8 or any higher version. I just reinstalled DirectX (9.0c) and the newest driver for my graphic card and it still won´t work. After restarting my computer everything works again and the process repeats.

Yes. I came to the conclusion that this has to do with my graphic card, but I want to ask you all for opinions and suggestions.

ATI is very known, because it have "dicky" drivers...buy another graphic card just like GeForce 8600 ;]

If you want, buy new pc but stick with your hard drive ;]

And you don't have to. (cuz it was working fine)
Maybe you installed something new before it started?
Reinstalling windows will help, but I don't think you want to do this.

I have problems too. I'm dual booting windows+ubuntu and because of my dying HDD windows is not working. Strange...

No, that´s it.

That´ll be the last thing I gonna do, if nothing else works :(

Very strange ...

EDIT: I guess I found my problem, because my brother told me that he got the problems 3 days before (didn´t use the computer for that time, I´ve used a netbook instead) because of some virus and thought we only needed new drivers. So he downloaded new drivers and didn´t download the newest frameworks and that must be the problem. I am downloading right now .Net Frameworks 3.5 and will tell you soon if that was my problem.

Note for Neosano: Hexer is great, isn´t it? [pigtail]

EDIT2: Hmm, it works now for about two times longer then before.

Very good guess, dudes, fucking true. I just opened my computer to put out the graphic card and insert a new one (my father found a X1600 Pro) and saw how much dust was in there. Anyway, I swapped the cards for purpose of far better graphics :) I am downloading the newest drivers right now and hope that my problems are solved.

In the future keep your computer in a well ventilated area. They are big metal dust magnets.

That´s a problem. First of all: Since I am European and no American we don´t have any ventilator :P Second issue is, that it´s the computer of my father and yet this one is not my own computer, my own sucks (Nvidia Gforce 5200 FX ...), and my father won´t buy any :(

Remove the side plate of the case, clean the cables and dust inside of it.
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.
