Bunch of old sketches I drew several weeks ago.  I hope they prove to be map-worthy layouts.

Most of them are intended to be mirrored for equal opportunity gameplay, except for ctf_Krypton, which is purposely designed the way it is.  It's supposed to have a similar style to Boxo's Noble Gases Maps, not symmetrical, but balanced gameplay.  ctf_Industrial has a similar style to ctf_Grind or ctf_Steel, visuals and polygon usage/work.  Rest can serve best as default.  ctf_Flesh was originally intended to be a tribute map to Viggoloniggo and for his DM Flesh.  It's basically a CTF version of it.

.................yes a study on high-quality something.

I know it's been up here a while, but that's fantastic!

I honestly adore this kind of style in Soldat maps, but there's one thing that always irked me with detailed mapping:

What is the background and what is the foreground?

I honestly wish more mappers used more cues to help flatten the learning curve on maps like this.  Doing things like darkening or de-saturating background detail, while doing the opposite for the foreground, would go a long way towards playability. :)

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake.  Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, "Give me your best shot. I can take it."

Going through an idea phase. Don't think I'd ever actually map this...

Not that this general idea has never been thought about. Meant to be a very warm, smooth and flowing outside (with exceptions..). In the cave, a very cold feeling (crisper and sharper; low humidity):

^click, for obvious reasons..^

Could be done with only three textures, unless you could make one very versatile texture to cover hard, cold stone; soft green ground; and varying dirt. Would also be TW, as I see no other gamemode it could fit into, but the terrain would provide all the cover for you. Therefore, there would be lots of "stuff" laying around. Thick bushes could slow/stop bullets etc...

Just follow the layouts as best as you can; most of the people for the drawings here are not asking for credit anyways, so you may manipulate the terrain as you like. With PolyWorks, you might find it helpful to use the Sketch tool to aid your placement of polygons prior to forming the landscape.

first map idea ever, its suppose to be in the shape of a lion (while still keeping gameplay)... Envisioned to be mostly ash colors and have them slowly fade to black to form the mane.

I hope to one day have the mapping skill to complete this. However, if someone else sees it before i get there, ur welcome to take it and actually make a good map from it, just mention me a lil ;).

Here's one I've had lying around for some time. The grid is meant to be to the scale of "1 unit = Soldat's height", though I guess you could scale it up a bit more and it might still work. The stuff around the top is meant to just be a bunch of jungle-ish platforms.

remove the tunnels, remove the islands, and make a deadland around the building, and here you have a nice INF map.

Some DM layouts that I drew in Paint.  Red represents player spawn, green is grenade kit, and aqua is medic kit.

I might create these though sometime in the very near future to get me back into mapping.  The transition is difficult and I feel this would be good warm-up maps.

Two additional sketches from a while back.

I honestly am not sure at this point anymore if I'm going to return to mapping.  The community of this game is shrinking and has a severe lack of quality players and servers.  I'll see wherever my motivation takes me though.
