My bro found it and gave me the 1st beta I think, long time ago. Used to beat up on bots, was fun. Then I lost it, found it again, and went online, and joined a 1.3 clan, just sorta took off from there. Now I am a leader of a great and respectable hexer clan :D

Started out on 3.1 with bots, lose it, got 4.1, made a name on one inf server called Internal Bleeding Inflict, joined some small time clans, moved up to play gathers, had good stats usually, played 1.4.2, made a name for myself on the somewhat narrow normal mode public inf scene, had a break for half a year, came back, became a regular name in the normal mode inf pubs, and am now a respected pubber on Blood Poland, and regular gather visitor, but still have my haters here and there.

Long story short :d
I was hooked the instant I tried it.

First time I saw this game, I was blown away. It is so much fun. But the thing that really struck me was the over-the-top gore. I still smile when someone gets a good LAW to the face, I flipped the first time I saw it. I dove right in and never looked back.

I started playing Soldat accidently. Me and a friend wanted to install a game from a CD and installed the wrong game. It turned out that this game was Soldat and we gave it a shot now that it was ready to be played. My first matches were actually the best ones I´ve ever had in Soldat, not in terms of how I played, but how it felt. Graphics weren´t that important. For a 2D sidescroller shooter they were okay, I liked it, and I kept playing, wondered how to use a barret, wondered even more about the scope and had much fun with M79 and pistol.

Wish the good old days were back.

Back in 2002/2003 I had a cheap Gateway Astro... a crappy computer, barely able to play Half Life 1. I was a student, so I didn't have much money for a better system. I didn't like playing on the greasy keyboards and mice on the better machines at a local gaming cyber cafe. My friend, sympathetic to my frustration introduced me to some games I might like that could run easily on my system. Among them was Soldat. Version 1.0.5b I believe it was. At first I wasn't too hooked to the game.. I was still enthralled by the latest 3d FPS's. I played it on and off for a while, but had my ass handed to me over and over. The controls and maneuvering took some time to learn and get used to. After that I didn't touch it for a year (something I really regret now as I had more time then and that was a nice part of Soldat history). Strangely, after not playing it for a year, I had it in my head and going through memories of it over and over. I fired it up once again and since then kept patient, learned to play properly and got addicted to it. It still take breaks from Soldat now and then and actually rarely play it, due to having little free time. However, I still love the game and prefer it over most other multiplayer titles out there.

At the beginnings, when my brother showed me soldat for the first time (1.4.0) I didn't like it at all; that until I've discovered realistic mode. If it wasn't for it I wouldn't have sat here writing this reply.
Soldat devs and community: We want this game to be successful and have new players and make it popular!

Soldat devs and community: But we want the oldskool graphics and bugs and errors to be left alone! Soldat shall never change!!!

My friends showed me soldat. I really started liking it because I used to draw stickmen on paper that looked just like Soldat, Bazookas, Automatic weapons and grenades. When I saw Soldat I was like : "SHit this is like my animated drawings"

Was in 2003 or 2004, version 1.1.4.

Was browsing the incredibly slow internet searching for a free game. Stumbled upon this strange looking game called Soldat and got hooked immidietly.
Heh, thought the bots spitting out random phrases were real people, particular when they said something in style with "XXXXX I'm going to kill you".

when i was get bored of my mom taking my games away i went online looking for a online massive  multilayer freeware game for windows xp and i found a lot but soldat was the only one i could play on this 2004 hp computer then i played single player only on an out dated part of soldat i download from acid-play.com and then it looked different from the videos i look up on youtube so i looked for the newer version and played single player only (not knowing that there was a online part) and then i mistakenly click join game and it flipped over then im like "oh sh**  it though it was background Scenery, oh crap"
and i play online not knowing all the controls, got my a** kick, got vote kicked for being American ...... don't ask, and stop playing for a week then i made friends got better playing learned new tricks and happy day im play it all most every day. THE END.

I first started in pub, starting off with Ak-74. (mm, still my favorite gun). I never realized there were servers such as trench war, zombie mod, SnS, climb, and many other.

But I still felt that pub/normal mode is my favorite, maybe it is because there are less players who are total idiots saying things that contrast themselves. Besides, you have more adrenaline rush in pub such as 5v5 and 3v3 (gather).

I hope to someday see you Godefroy in gather.

I was on the Xgen forums for absolutely no reason (I dont have an account on it) and saw this sub-forum about a Soldat-Clan
I had no idea what Soldat was, so I looked it up and downloaded it. Set the music to necromancy because the name sounded cool. First server I joined was a Real CTF, and for the longest time I thought I couldnt see half the players due to my crappy PC, not realising it was part of the realistic mode. the Epic Music and fast paced gameplay made me play it for weeks. Everyone at school still thinks its a POS. Sucks for them.

niice.

Er, er.. friend = play with me nao on something called LAN = crack addict = played more than him. Air pirates = great map to start on. Map making with mapmaker = kill me now.

A couple years later... yea, same old story. Throw the forums into the mix this time and you get me now.

I remember I first came across Soldat in an issue of Gameinformer that covered off-the-mainstream games that they considered the best of the best. And that's what started it. In truth, I fell in love with it for quite some time, though I never really did much with mapmaking, and anyone who actually remembers my rather deplorable mods knows why I didn't follow that path for very long. Still, I though it was great fun all around. It had its problems, but so does every game, really.
