[Fixed!]Browser issues, probably caused by viruses..
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:59:53 pm »
Hey Everybody,

I've got a problem..

Yesterday i downloaded a Torrent, it had a virus in it, so i erased it as soon as possible. The problem is that it made my Browser (Google Chrome) really slow.
So i started a scan trough my computer with Avira AntiVirus, it found 6 warnings and detections, so i clicked "Repair all", it took about one minute. Then it told me to restart my computer because of blah blah, so i restarted.

So 5 minutes ago, when my computer was restarted, i'm like hey my computer is faster, good! I happily open up my internet browser and it can't open ANY windows. It said this

Quote
Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED) : Unknown Error

So now, i'm like i'm gonna disable my Antivirus and run as Admnisitrator.. I try it out, same error comes up.. Also in xfire, you've got lil' adds in the top of the main screen, and it looks like this

But owell, now Internet Explorer works (at least) but i'd really like to know how i could fix that since it shouldn't be my AntiVirus, nor Admin permissions.

Thanks for reading!

(err sorry for the french window in xfire lol.)

Probably antivirus just deleted infected files. You'll have to reinstall the programmes.

Especially the last step about disabling any proxy the malware might've created.

Seems like it configured your browsers to use a proxy which is now unavailable (since your avira murdered it).

Just go to your browser's internet options and remove any proxy configuration.

And yeah, the only real way of unfucking it is reformatting.
There are other worlds than these

I've always believed that reformatting was the pussy's way out. While it certainly works, it just feels like going after a fly with a bazooka.

YAY!

I restored one of the file that Stupid Avira deleted and everything's back, hooray!

EDIT: Anyone has a GOOD antivirus that WON'T DELETE useful files?

I'm using Nod, but I'm not that stupid to dl warez so there are rarely any threats to my OS.

Yea same, all i download is Music Albums through BitTorrent, it's faster then LimeWire/any others, but can catch threats easily.

Well i might try it. Sounds a lil' shitty tho, haha.

Avast is a good antivirus. I understand that Avira wasn't very popular with people who play Ragnarok Online since it would delete files from the RO folder that would make the game stop working.

Avast consumes half of the ram.

What do you have, 256MB? I think the problem is with your hardware, not Avast.
Gamer_2k4

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

The best is Microsoft Security Essentials, along with Mal-ware Anti-bytes. Both free, and awesome.

Avira has annoying ads, Avast okay, AVG meh, rest is shit.

Scan one more time with MA or something, and you got another choice, Save your FF bookmarks (All history, import and backup, backup, then do the same thing to restore it ) and reinstall it.
