Score order by caps
« on: January 09, 2011, 02:05:59 am »
So, few weeks before somebody suggested somewhere, that in CTF players kills wouldn't be showen, that other gamemodes would get love.
Well I dunno does my suggestion turn people away from CTF to other gamemodes, but anyways:
Players arent ranked by kills/deaths, they are ranked by caps. Example: When nobody hasn't capped, but there are kills, player who haves highest kills, is in lead as normal. But if somelike the worse guy caps, (kills0 deaths1521235) he goes to lead. I'm not good at explaining things, but I hope you get it.
Sorry if I'm insolent.

I think the scoreboard should be about the best players, and I don't think some noob with no skills but a lot of luck and 3 caps should lead the board while someone with a k/d of 8 is second.

Well, its meaning was to get ppl to play other gamemodes too :P
And it could be good for newbie, who has no skills. Getting started is so long and rocky way, that they (newbies) could make faster love with soldat.

Some people suck at killing, like moi, but can't be stopped once they've caught the flag.

The scoreboard shows you where you are and how good you are in relation to the other players. It's much more pleasuring to see yourself working your way up the scoreboard than to cap once and be "the one". And even if you suck at killing, there are the ways of the dark side - the lame ways, namely spawning, camping and voting better players out - to achieve what you want so hard: being the best.

I say leave it the way it is. Some competition helps the game and encourages new players to get better. Or in other news: easy success, less satisfaction in the long term.

but the score in one match never meant to be an accurate reading of the player's skills. If you lose a round against some noobs like me, it doesn't mean anything. Winning a match is easy and involves lots of luck. Being a real pro that can have consistent k/d ratio in every match is the most difficult part.

On the other hand, it is quite important for the devs to ensure some easy satisfaction to new comers. It is not the age of Quake Arena, Unreal Tournament now. Not every player is hardcore gamer. both attracting new players and preserving hardcore gamers should be the devs' main focus to make soldat an even popular game than it was.

It doesn't necessarily have to put you at the very top of the board, maybe we should just bring back the old "scores for caps" thing, bu instead of a massive 30 points, the capper would get 10 or 15 points for that cap, if you ask me.

And as JohnyFong said: Not all gamers are hardcores like me and you, some like to start things off easy, and can't stand being called a noob or newb every other minute.

Also, I never gave a damn about my scores, really, I play for the kick of it, and to me, lamer tactics are boring as fuck.

The best solution imo would be to add 'points'. So, you can see kills, deaths, flags and points. Sorting should be done by points (+1 point for a kill, +10 for scoring), but you still could see kills amount.
