Improve your IRC!

Pimp my mIRC!

Intro:
Well, as it is for a long time, I've been using NNScript eversince I first encountred it. Prior to that I used nbs-script and the default mIRC provided. If you ever got annoyed with the default IRC and it's lack of settings and you would like to try something way more convinient, this is just for you. I think that NNScript is a very efficient, helpful and user-friendly and IRC users should try it for their own convinence at least once. Of course, it'll take some configuring of settings you probably don't even know yet, but that's why I write this topic.

The process for getting a 'better' IRC:

1. Download
Download mIRC 6.34 and NNScript @ Link.
These are two differenet installation files, and you need to install each seperatly.

2. Installation
Install mIRC 6.34 anywhere on your computer, then install NNScript (Further explanation on how to install mIRC + NNScript - Youtube).
* Preferably browse to the same mIRC 6.34 and install it to: X:/mIRC 6.34/NNScript 4.2.2.

3. Configuration
a. First of all - It is important to mention that you will have to do no use with mIRC.exe but with Launch NoNameScript.EXE! The script is an addition to the original mIRC and requires the existence of the mIRC directory but you do not have to use the mIRC.exe anymore. Meaning all configuration will take place in NoNameScript execution file.

b. Second step is configuring the usual default IRC Settings of course -> ALT+O.
Put whatever is comfortable for you there, you can contact me for further help if you want to know something about it.
Two things worth mentioning; you will have to change Connect -> IdentD to a unique IdentD, else you'll be constantly kickbanned from #Soldat.Gather (Read more). And the other thing I wanted to mention is that you won't have to use the 'Perform' feature anymore for Auto-auth. We'll get there.

c. After you configured your IRC Settings, you will now need to configure your NNScript settings.
On the main menu in the upper part of the window there's "NNScript -> Setup..." or you could just type "/setup" .
There are many, many, maaany options in there for you! I'll point out what I think is worthy and more important;
Away-system - Enable logging and general away system.
Copy & paste - To avoid mistakenly pasting huge amounts of texts.
Messages -> Quits - Just nice to have a unique quit message.
Miscellaneous - lots of useful options there, recommend to go through it closely.
Network Services -> QuakeNet - Perform auto auth. recommended to have v on all the settings.

d. Just for fun you can also go "/themes" and pick the theme that floats your bo(a)t.
Personally I love 'Swarfega's NNS Theme -> Gold'. I've basically made a couple of color changes which you can also accomplish yourself by 'Edit Theme' label in the same Themes window which is already open.

4. Additional Scripts
*  Ramirez's Soldat clicker - Download | Usage.
*  Teamspeak 3 Client Clicker - Download | Usage.
*  Now listening script /mp3ad+ - Enter this website for full explanation of features, download and usage.
*  Highlight all channel's users script - Install and usage.

5. Make your own silly little scripts to simplify some actions
You may add little scripts to simplify your interaction with IRC if you're a lazy boy such as myself.
All you need to do is to go 'ALT+R' And then go to the label 'Aliases', scroll down to the bottom of the file and add scripts.

Basically all you need to do is name a command and then add after a space the command you want it to do;
/desired-command-name /command <variable>.
/command can be = /say - /run - /amsg - /ame .

Examples of scripts I added:
/sctfl /run http://www.sctfl.net
/sheep /say BAAAAAAAAAAH!
/m /mp3ad+

6. Hebrew Users
Ah also a feature very important to mention, at least for the ones who want Hebrew enabled in their IRC (It might be helpful for other languages as well, I do not know really) is /font. In mIRC 6.34 w/ NNScript unlike in the most up to date version of IRC you may actually enable Hebrew so you may both see it and send it to other IRC users whose IRC supports Hebrew chars!

1. /font (You need to do it twice, once in channel and once in a pm)
2. Pick a font that supports Hebrew; Arial, Tahoma, etc..
3. Set Script to "Hebrew".
4. Tick V's on both "Set as deafult channel font" and "Use deafult".

I know most of the people here know IRC and it's features, I hope I was able to give at least one person something useful for a better IRC and simplifying the usage of IRC and generally making processes faster. Please avoid any comments like 'NO SHIT SHERLOCK' or such. If you have any additions I may add to this original post I'll be glad to hear about that.

Enjoy!

Well you don't need to limit yourself to version 6.34 of mIRC. I'm running NNScript run on 7.14 and I suspect it'd work to upgrade to the latest version of 7.25 too.

Oh, as far as I knew it didn't work. Does NNScript uses the features of the newer IRC as well?

Just checked for NNscript website/forums and got a bit of a heartache, when I saw that it's dead for some time now. It was a pioneer between scripts and, to this day, still one of the best.
