Soldat download statistics

As the topic brought up by me, stats delivered by Shoozza. We can clearly see Soldat isn't bringing as much attenion to itself gradually. Suprisingly 1.6.3 reached over 730k downloads even after long waiting time, so we can't say its mainly cause of slow releases. Lack of advertisement? Players simply got tired? You be the judge, discuss.

how have any of the updates worsen your playstyles or gamemodes etcetera?

I mean you're saying what's wrong but not what exactly has caused all of this.
For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

well look what you did in 1.6.4,

everyone see more bugs after update that fix'es that's funny, more lags, more server problems, more problems with weapons, animation bugs etc etc...

so thx for super update and making this game worst ;]

It seems to me that the difficulties since version 1.6.4 depends to the new netcode and the scriptcore3.
In 1.6.3 the knife throw animation was buggy maybe cause of hold weapchange + hold weapthrow = fasterchange but idk...
However, you should be grateful for the updates! They also make it for free!
So be patient and optimistic!

The stats are inherently wonky as 1.5.0 was latest and greatest for two years before being updated. 1.6.3 was out for a year. But 1.6.4 was only out for two weeks.

If you want an indicator of Soldat's pulse then you should find different stats, like the amount of participating clans in SCTFL, or matches played weekly in #soldat.gather.

I think we should follow the mainstream to get better known - streaming, making strong socialization between the communities of Soldat (a.k.a making them connected or semi-linked to main forums). When we will sort out our bugs in heads, we can start pushing forward.
In my opinion, only active(!) communities are SCTFL & gathers, R/S, Climb and Knife Only. I guess they should share their experience with people and make something big.

@Above: It's as if these people want to see Soldat die so they can dwell on old memories and somehow have it "for their own". That's just sick. Why would you say something like that?

I played Soldat because back when 1.3.1 was the latest version, I had the worst computer of all time, and I was extremely excited to find a free multiplayer shooter game that I could actually play. Soldat was very awesome to me and I attempted to make mods for it, some of which were moderately well received.

Since then, I have purchased a very expensive gaming computer and I have no desire to play a 640x480 resoution game as it's simply too low. I have two 1440p monitors and the game is either super pixellated or super small. Years ago when CRT and 4:3 LCD monitors were the norm, Soldat was fine, but it's too small a resolution now.

I have a proposal though, League of Legends players (particularly professionals) are ALWAYS looking for an easy and quick game to play in their queue times. I know that may sound a little insulting to this beloved game, but if the professionals such as Dyrus plays soldat during his 20 minutes matchmaking queue, over 40,000 people will see him playing it, ands you can bet downloads with dramatically increase. If you can stow your pride, I actually think that this is a really, really good market for soldat. I seriously still play it during my game waits. It fits so perfectly as its small as well (in contrast to my complaint above), so the players can see their twitch chat, Internet browser, dashboard etc. and still play Soldat.

Just my thoughts on the issue.

Are you not "registered"? You can change the windowed mode resolution

Doesn't that only increase the HUD resolution? I haven't been here in ages, has it changed so that the entire game is ACTUALLY higher resolution (instead of just being expanded)?

Well, yeah. If it expanded the viewed area it wouldn't be fair to other players.

I don't know what you're whining about though. I regularly play soldat fully screen on my 1920x1080 1080p monitors and think it looks great.

I said than few times.
Soldat need new HD maps, but we can't make them, because for now, Soldat is getting "short of breath"[lag like little sh*it] when you put on map more than 2000 polygons and few bigger graphic than 300x400 and try to play 5v5.
I working on few remakes of maps(its not what I could do, because of this lags, so most of them are version with medium quality poly and graphic), but when I see how my version of Ash is working right now in this version of Soldat on my PC that could eat for breakfast crysis and BF3 at the same time, I think that Im not gonna upload any of my maps, delete my Ash topic, and turn off all of my servers(just 3 but still...) because for now making anything in Soldat its a bit... useless...

I thought that making this map make old mapmakers angry that some random dude make it and force them to focus on making map again but I found out that nobody care about putting soldat to new generation games(no body care about making new map in generally).
YOU REALLY NEED good graphic, not 3D or shinny like chrome ball, but better graphic than we have now, characters doesn't need to be huge with all details, lots of indie games have small characters, but they have awesome worlds full of details, and Soldat right now have  laggs, old maps, old players and no one with balls to say it loud...

OFC I dont need good graphic, and most of you also don't need i, but new generation of players assesses game after looking at it. This is hard true and we need to deal with it.

For now I think its too late, no body care about maps: I specially make topic about ctf_viet remake to see how many people see it, and for last week I almost in every hour i check forum(who is online and in what topic they are) and lobby, [i have time for that  :-* ] And I saw... nothing.
Most of forum members just check latest post and quit, no body care to MAKE something like few years before(no creativity, no new ideas that actually are finished ) just bith*ing about old days, complains about stupid details, and refreshing old topic's...

I know that no one right now have capabilities to make it better, but if you love this game like you say, start making it better... I know its not right for devs but if you dont want to say "bye" in next year, you need to focus on look of the game(making less lag on bigger, more complex maps) not focus on movements or making this game work on osx(how many players this give you? seriously...) for that is time, and most of players like like was before... :]


PS. And if you think that you gonna make your day better after counting people in SCTFL & gathers, R/S, Climb and Knife Only communities, SORRY to burst your bubble but without fresh players in public servers you end up with game just for small group of people that stopped they brains in 2004... well, basically just like right now... xD

PS yes, yes for you Im random fu*ker that "doesnt know anything" xD but you can belive it or not im playing this game from start of it and I like to see things from distance you are "inside" so you maybe don't see all thinks :]

I tried somewhat advertising soldat in r/leagueoflegends amongs games like heartstones or whatever dyrus plays. When people see soldat their first reaction must be: damn this is one ancient game! Too bad they dont second guess their first impression and give it a fair amount of trial time. I played soldat more than any other game and anyone who played it for a few years knows this cozy feeling you get when you run around Laos for the milionth
time.

CTF#4 of mine is occupied on a daily basis and its 16 slots and has maps like ash in the mapslist. You need to try it out, Soldat is much more fun when it's pure chaos. Gathers seem silly after that.

Hi all :)

In my opinion, the main lacks of Soldat are:
- not enough good graphics and visual/sound effects (as it has been said before)
- too constrained script engine (no threads, no real access to all of the parameters, u can not modify many things...)
- no "social" aspect (accounts, public stats, buddy list, built-in or internally supported tournaments system, achivements, etc.)
- lags, lags, lags...
- not enough good maps
- no campaign mode (I bet that players would create maps, scripts, etc for that)
- no bots scripting (for above it would be very useful)

I think the real power of Soldat would be being the "game-scripting engine" (where u can modify almost anything as you wish).
And - in my opinion - it should be rewritten from scratch, in some better (for games) language (C++ maybe?).
