dm_Oasis (reworked)
« on: November 13, 2006, 08:08:38 am »
Players: 3-8
Waypoints: No...I can't waypoint  :'(

My second map, Oasis. Inspired by Blox and the game Far Cry.
Lots of jungle to hide and ambush. This was also my first attempt at doing water.

Credits

Scenery:
Serial K!ller
Avarax
VirtualTT
Anyone else I forgot to mention.

Thanks to Wraithlike for the texture idea.

Please comment on how I can improve and whats good and bad about it etc.

Update: Added more Platforms, I think there are too many, what do you think? Which ones should I remove/leave in? The reason I added more rather than enlarging existing ones is because the texture and scenery got all wierd when I enlarged it, plus it looks cool with more platforms ;D I figured this also solves the problem of it being too open as well. I left the water as is...I like it ;D

i dont like these oases  ::) they looks so unrealistic. But layout is pretty good.

maybe you could use more scenery imho  ;)

Think more of a gameplay. Try to reduce amount of islands, but to make their size more. Make somewhere a tunnel.
On a kind a beautiful map. ;) Water too muddy. And it is absolutely not clear what for it it is necessary. ???

Hudo's comments were exactly what I was thinking. The scenery used is already good; just tweak the water, and make the polygons larger, so it feels just a bit more cramped like Arena; there's a tad too much open space as it is IMO

BG colors are the same for up & down? :-\

I don't think the BG colours are the same...And the water is nessecary because it's an oasis...What can I do with the water to male it better?

None of us are saying to totally remove the water; it's just too opaque as it is right now, it seems. And it looks kind of weird how a small pit can hold such a large body of water to me, personally ;P

I myself don't really like a bunch of tiny, scattered floating boulders like that (I much prefer more solid terrain like Arena or Shau). Nice vertex colors.

The pit for the water needs to be bigger, as it is, it looks like you just stuck a thin polygon line around the water to look like it's supported, but I think it would look better if it was much bigger.  Also the oasis is off in the corner of the map, it should probably be at the center of somwhere on the bottom to ensure it's played around a lot.

I like the shading and most of the colors.

But yeah, as ^they all suggested, make the islands fewer and larger. Make the oasis water either more transparent or lighter. Make it not stand out as much.
