Windows task manager issue

hey guys I have a problem and I think I'll get the quickest response from here.
The thing is I installed a game(18+ only so I'm not gonna name it) and I think it messed my registry up. When I  try to run task manager I get  a message saying

         Task manager has been disabled by your administrator.

I get the same message wen I try to run command prompt or some batch files( a Red alert 2 mod installs this way and I cant install it.) The wierd thing is that I have only one account on my PC and I'm the only one that uses it. And no , I didn't touch the registry. So , if someone knows how to solve this problem , I would apreciate your help. Or if I dont get any helpful info , should I try to ste the system to a prior restore point cause I dunno if the restore points adress the registry in that way. I think the problem is i  the registry cause I googled "disabling task manager" and I got some pages with info on how to disable it through  the registry for a multi user computer.

(if this is in a wrong forum you can frely move it , I wont mind  )

well would help if you gave the name since usually others have same problems as you. also it might have made a new acount, and switched the admin priveledges for you. please post the source of the batch file that wont open. if you cannot open it with notepad rename it to something else then open it with notepad. it most likely is just changing priveledges on your account.

If it's a sex game its probably full of spyware and disabled task manager so you can't view them and shut them down. I'd reformat or do a search and destroy thing if I were you.

download Process Explorer. I don't know the website, but through that you should be able to view and close the running processes.

If you go in safemode I think there should be another administrator account, try logging in that and maybe run some antivirus and antispyware stuff

if it was a free game that you downloaded, there was a good chance that it was bundled with some malware (bad programs that you do not want on your computer).  I know from experience with clients of mine that there are many viruses and other programs out there that disable the Windows Task Manager via many means, so that you can not easily see what is going on on your computer.

My advice would be to google whatever the name is of that game/program with stuff like "task manager" "virus" "malware" "spyware" and see what you get.  Get something like ad-aware (google for it) or spybot and see if perhaps there are some evil things going on on your computer.

Try to dl a new copy of taskmanager and see if you get it again, or look in the controlpanel and see if you can enable the option. I myself have had stuff that have even removed my taskmanager so i recomend that you're cerful when downloading stuff from the internet, get a good spyware/malware removal and antivirus prog (i recomend Avast, good, easy and free).

Ah, yes... I had a slightly similar problem from a worm, but I didn't get any message telling me it was disabled.  It wouldn't open up task manager, is all. I just went into safe mode and full system scanned; that fixed everything.

Thanks for the replies guys . But , I have a Zone labs internet security suite that has antivirus/antispyware and firewall included. I bought it so it's not such a big deal about that. I updated it and ran a scan on my whole hard disk. I did't get any malicious software or anything. I had ad-aware b4 so I'll try it

Then I restarted my comp and like i did nothing. I couldn't open the task manager again

Haha my school did that... easily bypassed with the following methods:

a) If you have WRITE access to your windows registry (click start->run->type regedit), click Edit and Search for "DisableTaskMgr" and change it from 1 to 0... Im not sure where it is located.

b) Download a freeware HEX editor program from google (Look for HEX Workshop), once installed go to C:/WINDOWS/System32/ and find the program called Taskmgr.exe, right click on it and click HEX edit with HEX Workshop... once it has opened, press ctrl+f and search for "DisableTaskMgr", and under options untick unicode and press the circle that says "Either", search down, then click OK, and it will highlight some text that looks like "D.i.s.a.b.l.e.T.a.s.k.M.g.r.", replace any character in that with a 1, eg "1.i.s.a.b.l.e.T.a.s.k.M.g.r.", then press ctrl+s, then hit ctrl+alt+delete and viola, you have your task manager back.... Silly windows
