new map/need critizism

ok while my interenet was down yesterday, i started this map out, and then half way through i noticed it looked kind of like snakebite.

since it looked so much like snakebite, i am considering doing a snakebite two, but i do not have chakapoko maker's permission to do that, and before i continue i would like to have his permission, could someone PM me his contact info, or show him this post. thanks

anyways, here is a screen shot of the over view. please tell me why this map is good/bad, and any changes that you think should be done.

and if i cant get chakapoko maker's permission, how i can change it to take away the "snake bite" look to it.

It really doesn't remind me of snakebite at all, only the general path placement is a little similar.

Layout looks a lil like snakebite, alright, dont like texture, theres absolutely no shading or scenery but im guessing you will do that later, show spawns and flags, and there is too many routes for decent gameplay. Sorry if I sound harsh, just telling you what comes to my mind.

jettlarue, be as harsh as you can, within reason. if that is how you feel about the map, i want to hear it.

really? you dont think it looks much like snakebite.....sooo i guess it wouldnt really be like me copying his map.

as for the texture, i found it along time ago and wanted to see what it would look like in a map

of course theres no shading, or scenery...yet, the map was just "born" yesterday


oh, and spawns/flags are in the little indent in the back of the "bases". although they may change

Change that brick texture. Please change that texture. :-X

It is strangely, slightly reminiscent of a mix of ctf_Kampf, ctf_Death, and ctf_Snakebite. I'm sure you won't need anyone's permission to release this map. ;) Make the BG colors a little brighter (just a bit), and maybe lean more towards a teal color than murky green, unless you're going for a jungle/swamp atmosphere.

I feel there really is nothing to the map other than the central conflict area; all the rest is just steep cliffs. Try putting rooms in the top-left and -right; stretch them out—make chambers, and have all soldaten spawn in them. Maybe put a second spawn chamber in the bottom corners, too.

Dig the little flag indents a bit more; they can easily fall out as they are from a bit of gunfire.

The bottom routes into the bases feel a bit... weird. I'm not sure why, but perhaps flattening the steep slope a lot would help.

Feed the three bottom-center rocks a lot of fried chicken; they're really thin as it is and allow M79-splash damage to reach from the other side too easily.

Agreed, First thoughts would be to change the texture.
I'm not too sure about the actual size, as my judgement is rather bad  :(, but perhaps make the "tunnels" in the bottom of the map, and around the base slight wider, unless thats the intended idea.
Apart from already mentioned faults, I think the the rest of this is fine, and best of luck with completing it, =]

i'm guessing the teams spawn on the outermost little ledges and the flags are placed like in snakebite..,

first there are too many holes in the lower route it's not really a separate route. second the outermost tunnels are too curved, nobody will have any reason to use theu outermost low tunnel, so it shouldnt be that big or shouldnt be there. third the upper "route" is too simple and flat. fourth change the damn texture.

overall if you fixed this enough to make it playable it would indeed be identical to snakebite so i dont see any potential in it.

It kinda looks ugly right now, probably because the lack of shading.  Make the polys darker.

As for the layout, take the two mounds on either side of the map and raise them to be about two soldier heights below the celing.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.
