ctf_goldmine- help is appreciated - modified
« on: September 18, 2006, 05:46:32 am »
Ok, so before you say anything, Its not finished. What little of the map I have done, has been done in a couple of hours and will be 2/3/4 times the size upon completion.
I will most likely change the background and will hopefully be able to bring down the poly count, as its unusually high.  ;)

Any constructive criticism available, is welcome here. So please post any adivce you can think of.  :)

Ok, been making some decent(or not?) progress on this one, minecarts, wooden supports, and several other adjustments have been made.

Still cant find a "Keep Out" sign, anyone got one lying around by chance?

It's looking real good, only thing that I have to say is that the gold are not scattered enough, it looks like it's in a pattern instead of randomness.

I don't like the gold scenery. Try getting a texture that has gold in it instead or something.

This is purely out of dorkness, their are two big types of gold deposits...veins, and placer deposits.  Veins, well..kinda..look like veins.  And placer deposits are those that build up in ancient rivers.  Try getting a vein scenery.

Also, that background wall color looks a bit too bright.  Make it a bit darker and more rock like?
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

Try making the rocks a bit more varied, and add a track for a mine cart.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

Yes, make it darker and place light sources in the cave. It will give you the ability to show of your lighting skills.
Instead of 1 scenery which is 8 pieces of gold use scenery with single piece of gold. Than you can varry the size of them. And remember - gold shines ;)

More carts full of gold on rails, lightbulbs at the ceillings, wooden supports...

Good luck on this one

Add the archetypal wooden planks marked "Keep Out" across the enterance.  Won't be complete without it.  And bats.  Lots of bats.

You didn't even bother to read the first post, did you? As I said, I havent finished it yet, and the objects placement hasnt even been allocated.

Also, do you think you could help me find that "Keep Out" sign Orion? I've had a look around but can't seem to find one thats any good. =[

Looking much better, dude.  Keep looking for gold scenery.

Hm...this map looks like it needs a stat gun.  Then again, I always think that...

layuot consisnig of just one tunnel is boring and such unbalanced structure seems not much playable... maybe you can transform this map to dm... just add some more routes and places...
also there is new 1.4.0.2 version of PolyWorks avilable

1.4.0.3, VTT ;)

Don't use a boxy gold scenery for the gold; instead, it'd be better to use one or two individual ingots, and dot the land with them at varying levels of transparency.
